Novoflex now has Castle-L and Castle-Q. Castle-Q has a built in Arca clamp, but it's also in the "really rong" orientation. Castle-L can be in any orientation you want. But, as David mentioned, you can get it "off" of straight, and it can also rotate occasionally. I "fixed" this. On my Castle-L, I ...

Thank you very much for all the great help with making a decision. I have decided to go with Novoflex cause I like the design and they are well built. I will be taking alot images of flowers out in the field and would like a diffusion tent that would also act like a shield from the wind. Could any ...

Nice images Antonio - excellent composition, and you have succeeded well at capturing the fine detail of the hairs surrounding the head.

Joseph - Thanks for raising the excellent point about the potential effects of optical asymmetry upon exposure when using objectives outside of their nominal magnifications. A few clarifications: Canon lenses are typically 1/3 to 2/3 stops slower than Nikon lenses stamped with the same speed. At f/4...

David, Apart from any pre-stack PP or post stack PP ( but feel free to mention them :D ), what were the settings used in HF in regard to Smoothing and Radius? Craig P.S. I noticed you have 'backed-up' your Nikon M Plan ELWD 20/0.4. Hello Craig - I just used the HF defaults (off the top of my head 8...

Allow me to translate the lens label... 0.13 - NA 0.13 = f3.8 (there are formulas for this stuff) and on the other side: 0 - no cover slide. If this number isn't 0, you can't use it on a bellows I would like to add two caveats to Joseph’s extremely comprehensive and comprehensible explanation of th...

It´s a very beautiful micro-landscape you´ve composed there, David. Was it diffused lighting only or has the light to hit in a shallow angle to display the texture so well and give this nice depth? And I´d be interested to hear what lens/objective you´ve used. --Betty Thank you Betty. I used a 63mm...

Hi David, It appears we have both been shooting with a Nikon M Plan ELWD 20/0.4 today, so I can appreciate the challenges. My attempts have not proven to be as fine as this one though. I have been trialling an objective that arrived a couple of days ago. You have me intrigued. Would like to see an ...

Queen androconial patch

This is a patch of androconial scales on a a Queen butterfly ( Danaus gilippus ). I get a lot of these butterflies in my backyard because the males are attracted to the Eupatorium I have planted there. I like this image because it resembles a stylized eye. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userp...

Being a non-user, I would also like to ask, what is the advantage of using macro focusing rail? It really helps with precise framing and focus of close-up shots of relatively static subjects, like flowers and perching damselflies. For critical applications, a desired magnification ratio can be main...
