Interesting, I've always wondered about these little Pentax lenses, and you tried the fish-eye! The downsized images good, the 100% crops don't hold up but thats okay. Thanks for sharing the results. Robert You're welcome! I was hoping for more, but you can't win 'em all. Next step is to try buildi...

An unexpected optic: reversed Pentax Q 03 Fish-eye

Hi all; Having reversed SLR lenses (prime and zoom), and movie camera lenses for macro shooting, I have wondered, on and off, about reversing the Pentax Q 03 Fish-eye, https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/Pentax-03-Fish-Eye.html , figuring that its short (3.2mm) focal length would produce even h...

OK, as expected the 17mm is a challenge. There may be more than one version of these, but I have the one with a rather long barrel. Without any added extension, on my Sony A7 I get over 2:1 magnification... With the 35mm I need 6mm extension to reach infinity, so it has a ffd of 24mm. Looking at my...

What sensor size do you intend to use this T/S system on? For shift you need a lens with a larger image circle than your sensor diameter. For a 35mm lens this may be a challenge, especially when focussed to infinity. It sounds a bit like what in German is called an egg-laying, wool and milk-produci...

Thanks for the information. Yes, I'm wondering what the flange distance is for infinity focus for the 50 or 35mm lenses. Longer ones aren't going to be as useful for higher magnifications on extension or stacked, and too narrow for the TS play I had in mind...

Thanks again!

MP-4 Tominon lens questions

Hi all; A few questions regarding the Tominon lenses designed for the Ploaroid MP-4 system. Hoping they are not too daft... What is the film to flange distance for these lenses? Are they be capable of focusing to infinity with the right amount of distance between lens and sensor? I know that t...

Until I do more shooting out in the field, rather than in my dining room, I'll just leave this link to these initial results from my 55-300 and 16-85 zooms that I posted on the Pentax Forums: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/143202-macro-any-means-necessary-club-35.html#post4650922...

Quick update, with the redrockmicro reversed I get the best looking images from my Xenoplan 28/2.0 to date, hardly any CA, not even wide open and high contrast. And that is wider than f/2.0, this lens even has an aperture stop marked beyond 2.0. Up till now this was always unusable because of the l...

UPDATE 1 My Surplus Shed order arrived a couple of days ago. This thing is big and heavy, glass and metal, about the size of of a hockey puck. Hanging this much weight off the front of some lenses (as is my intended use) may be problematic. I can imagine some lightweight, modern, plasticky zooms pro...

One advantage of those little alternatives is the ease of lighting the subjects. The fisheye attachments I have seen are huge and make lighting challenging. Excellent point I had not considered. I also wonder about the minimum focusing distances. The smaller lenses seem to be able to get much close...

Have you checked the Laowa 15mm F4 (https://www.venuslens.net/product/laowa-15mm-f/). It is for interchangeable lens cameras, but it could be something of your interest. This certainly looks like an interesting lens, but it's outside what I can afford at this point. The results from DIY rigs assemb...

I've ordered one. I'm hoping it might be a cheaper Raynox susbstitute I can use on my 55-300 zoom for those occasions I don't want to carry an actual macro lens with me. I'm very curious to see what everyone here does with this, too. It's good to have multiple ways to do the same or similar things a...

Fisheye macro using P&S adapters?

Hi all; A number of photographers who have done fisheye macro work, like John Hallmen https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnhallmen/29958568915/#comment72157674444663445 and Gil Wizen http://gilwizen.com/wide-angle-macro-1/ have built macro rigs around small "board lens" optics, cell phone fisheye adapt...
