Took it apart and it was indeed a broken fine focus gear..Paid $80 for the stand now I'm going to have to pay $120 to fix it or simply throw it in the garbage and put put the money towards something better. Never fails when you try to do something on the cheap... )-:}

Nikon optiphot stand problems

I got an optiphot stand that I thought would be a good starting point for building a macro camera stand. It has a very large stage that looks perfect for camera use. Issue I'm having concerns the stage focus adjustment. The stage will not stay in position, it falls under it's own weight (knobs don't...

I made a snoot/reflector from some foam core to get past the end of my 200mm micro lens and bellows. Cost nothing, works great, looks horrible..

I like your approach!

Nice shot. Interesting to see you're using a D700. Just got one myself but hadn't thought of it as much of a "macro" camera. I have a zillion old prime lenses, bellows, etc.. I'm more inspired now!

It was coming towards the camera so I assume this is a shot from the front. Pretty hard to tell actually.

Friendly harvestman spiders

Saw this pair last fall in Arkansas being a little too friendly. Interesting behavior..

spiny caterpillar and a new old lens

Ran across an old Vivitar 55mm F2.8 1:1 Macro lens and just had to grab it. Went out in the yard and ran across this prickly fellow to test it on. Early testing is positive. Just hope I can get some time to use it. Shot at f5.6, 1:1, 1/180s at ISO 200 with the D90.. Click image for a larger version....

I just used a 39mm to T mount adapter ($7 on ebay) and then used the T-Nikon adapter. Not very practical (fixed focus) but the images that fit where extremely sharp. As sharp as any from my other macro lenses. Lens itself is a 40mm Bogen f3.5 enlarger lens. http://www.pbase.com/arlon/image/94042616/...

few shots from the backyard (40mm enlarger lens)

It sure is nice to have critters and flowers coming back... All shot with an enlarger lens (no bellows) just for fun.. I just use regular flash for freezing motion on water shots. In a dim room, flash does all the exposing and does a great job of freezing things. The article Dave posted is all that got me to try water with my d200, Had been using the d50 at high shutter speeds like 1/4000 with the flash. D200 only s...
