Or you could turn down the lights in your room...
This however is often not possible in multi-user labspaces. The CKX is often located in normal cell culture labs for quick inspection of cultures and not in dedicated microscope rooms for measurement which are usually dark.

Hi, Alan Wood is correct. The CX-PH1,2,3 clicks into the CX condenser like the CX-AL (aux lens for centering, the condenser itself cannot be centered). For darkfield and oblique (at least) one cheap option to try is to create a DIY stop out of black cardboard and put this below the condenser (or san...

I would rather ask: what color/wavelength for excitation do you want to use? If you want UV excitation @365nm for example you could choose an appropriate longpass filter (400 nm LP for example) . Then you can detect all the higher wavelengths (all the colors). Depending on the quality of your lights...

The A7II should support live view with capture one pro. I think there is a pro sony version at a reduced price. The for-sony free version does not support live view AFAIK. https://www.phaseone.com/capture-one/supported-cameras.aspx?c=sony Please share your experiences. This might be a way I would li...

I just swapped the superwide tube (SWHK) to the CX41 (what a strange sight) and it delivered a nice and even picture on a Plan 40x (!). So I do not think that the impact of the small dovetail airspace is very large. It might well depend on your preferences and whether or not you aim to push everythi...

One difference between the CX and the BX scopes is that the cental opening in the dovetail is smaller in CX. I don't know if this will be relevant for example in terms of vignetting when projecting to larger sensors. The CX tubes and oculars have a FN of 20 but the scope works well with the BX FN22 ...

Laser or Waterjet cut metal parts (Europe)
Hi, has anyone of you good experience with a workshop producing custom laser or waterjet cut metal parts (aluminium or steel). Preferably located in Europe to reduce shipping costs. I have seen several shops while doing google searches but would be glad if there anyone of you could recommend a tried...

Hi, maybe this is of relevance within this discussion: I have read about a clever way to higher NA illumination (than observation) for superresolution. There is a paper out which does this with a off the shelf LCD as light modulator in the condenser back focal plane. I would like to replicate this s...

The HBO Lamps need some time to stabilize after ignition (15-20 min), this is especially relevant if you want to take stacks. Do not turn off immediately after ignition and do not re-ignite a hot lamp. Both shortens the lifespan. The olympus BX-RFA manual also says #To extend the mercury burner life...

Hi, there is a paper out detailing a LED illumination axis made with simple off the shelf components (Arduino, Thorlabs, etc.). They also have a comparision of critical and Koehler illumination: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0143547 Edit: I think besides having le...

Hi, I also found the centering procedure outlined in the olympus RFA manual produced sufficiently good results for me. Olympus advises the use of a centering target (U-CST) which I don't have and always replaced by a sheet of cardboard with a cross drawn on it or just by a plain sheet of paper/cardb...
