Re: European Blue Mason Bees

Striking and very well-lit images, which succeed both visually and informatively. Well done!

Re: Hippeastrum--a little February brightness

Thank you, Klevin. I only recently discovered that wintering over is an easier process than I had thought, and may try it this year.

A Peculiar Plasmodium

Having found a bit of inner bark on a fallen tree with a fingernail size apparent myxomycete plasmodium in the back yard, I brought it in to have a look and kept it in a petri dish for several days. I was hoping to see an interesting fruiting body. What showed up was interesting, but puzzling to me....

Hippeastrum--a little February brightness

DMap 2970-3012WDen copy.jpg Generally known as amaryllis in the US, these plants are common holiday gifts comprising a planted bulb which quickly grows and flowers upon watering, with bright colorful blooms. This example produced four flowers springing from a single stalk, seen here from above. DMa...

Superb collection. I am particularly drawn to the coloration and symmetry of the stinkbug group. Thanks for posting!

Re: Inconsistent exposure in sequences

physicsmajor, thanks so much for your prompt and very helpful reply. I believe that the Trond lights were at brightest intensity, but am not absolutely sure. I repeated a stack using a pair of Janso lights, and had a similar, but not as marked variation, much as you described having experienced. I t...

Inconsistent exposure in sequences

I have recently noted a rather marked problem with sequences shot with LED Trond lights; multiple exposures within the stack were 1-2 stops underexposed in a random pattern. I've not noted any flickering of the lights, but have not noticed this in a smaller stack lit with a different (battery powere...

Crane fly posing as a phage

crane fly.jpg
OK, its weird, but somehow the position of this critter put me to mind of a bacteriophage about to ruin the day of a large (but mossy) bacterium--

Re: Coprotus arduennensis on cow dung

I suspect this was a bit smelly to shoot, but the composition, lighting, and images make it all worthwhile. Nice work!

A very nice collection/presentation. And thanks for the introduction to sweep nets; I was not aware of this technique before.

Yes, I wondered about air flow implications. Could these be important in the tandem wing world?
