Spider in window well

I wasn't sure whether to place this topic in Nature or Studio. The spider was in a basement window well between window glass (double pane!) and the window screen. The spider was undisturbed and in a habitat that it had chosen. Camera: Canon 7D MkII Lens: MPE-65 1X-5X @ 2X and f5.6 10 second exposure...

This is an intriguing image. What is the little ant looking at? An ant lion dispatching one of his fellow ants?

Lou Jost, I see your points. It does have somewhat of a inchworm build. Reviewing inchworm photos on the internet I haven't seen anything with the protuberances resembling gorzam's specimen. I would have to admit that it is a poor method for trying to establish ID.

Looks very much like a hawk moth caterpillar, (horn worm), of some kind.

I've seen many a stacked fly on this site. As nicely detailed and impressive as they are there is something quite charming in seeing a single well composed frame of a living creature enjoying a meal.

Frilly Edge of Cyclamen

I found this cyclamen at the local Fry's Foods grocery store. The red frilly edge was fascinating. Here is a normal view: 20 frames, 200 micron separation, Canon 100 mm f/2.8 IS at f 4.0. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/3318_Cyclamen_20160313_D_ZS_DMap_1024_Max_1.jpg Here is a 4x view ...

I'm not a bug expert nor the son of one, but this turned up in a google search:

From the second photo down in the link, your specimen appears to be a female scorpion fly. This was a very interesting post, thank you for sharing.

Is this image from a single frame? If it is a single frame the soft portions may simply be out of the focus plane. The antenna in the right hand side of the image appears to pass through the focus plane with reasonable detail in the little bit that passes through the plane of focus.

Out of near complete ignorance I referred to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysopidae It says that: "Their senses are weakly developed, except that they are very sensitive to touch. Walking around in a haphazard fashion, the larvae sway their heads from one side to the other, and when the...

Very interesting how the simple act of picking a strawberry can lead to a fascinating side trail, well done! In the Phoenix area we have whip tail lizards that only reproduce by parthenogenesis as well. In the case of the whip tails they have double sets of chromosomes that may figure into how they ...
