Re: From Czech meadows and groves II

A very satisfying group of images; I particularly like the rampant beetle!

Re: Funnelweb spider male comes courting

An interesting sequence and dissertation. I am a bit boggled by the amount of spider anatomy and physiology that has been sussed out over the years, but I guess that would be true in many areas of scientific inquiry.

A most excellent image, made more even impressive by it having been handheld!

My thanks to all of you. Mark, my particular thanks for the additional information; I was previously ignorant on all three points, although I did correctly presume the potential for sting!

Re: A look into the seed-head of a Salsify

Very nice!

My thanks to colohank and Mark for the id; I ran across these for the first time a couple of years ago in the Pacific Northwest. We don't have them here, and I was quite taken with them.

Re: Drosophila

I agree; excellent images, well presented.

I have a question: I am familiar with bleed in printing, but apparently missed the class on "bleed amount". What is it in this context, and why is it important?

Thanks for your indulgence!

Re: Sunflower emeritus

Thanks, Klevin, and I apologize for the omission. It was a Nikon 105 macro at f5.6 on an 850, natural (window) light, focusing stack created in camera and compiled with Zerene.

Re: Acanthocephala

My thanks to you all for your kind comments. Rik, I would submit that what might be interpreted as his proboscis is actually the terminal portion of his right front foot with its reflection, perhaps made more confusing by distortion from a water droplet. I tried to produce a stereo view to help with...

Re: Lighting the Bee

Rik and Sym, Thank you for thinking about this with me. As an fyi, the SB-700 is a bit odd in that the duration is said to be almost the same at full output, 1/1042th of a second as it is at half output, 1/1136th. At 1/4, it drops to 1/2857th and only beyond there gets seriously brief. Any thoughts ...
