Here's one with the Seidentoph head AND the desk with inserts. http://cgi.ebay.com/Reichert-MEF2-Metallurgical-Microscope-Metallograph-/200460846430?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eac65c55e These things are pretty cool, construction wise, and the image quality is great, for the pre-com...

I recently aquired one of these amazing icons of perfection, but the site seems to be inactive. Does anybody know of any interest or activity? I'd like to share my observations and opinions, as well as questions with fellow users on this instrument. This is the second one I've owned, and I'm not sel...

Choronzon, the seller cleverly left out the "E" in the photos by not allowing the proper angle. The barrel style does appear the same as the E Plan Achromats, but I would not ascribe any "clever" intentions to the seller (he even provides the Nikon product number and original list price in the list...

Guys, Those are E Plans, although the seller cleverly left out the "E" in the photos by not allowing the proper angle. (or the printed E has dissolved) As I seem to recall, these used elements with economy production features such as glass that was pre-formed in molds, then polished to final finish,...

What you said in that post went right over my head I thought you were referring to the diagonal mirror in the frame under the splitter. I had no idea there would be a pellicle mirror surface on the beam splitter itself. That AO head you pointed out looks great (Series 10 I think) but there might be...

My first thought was that I would have to turn it to "unscrew" it. But, turn as I may, it stays put. Also, when the knob's in the OUT position it feels rather wobbly, not sure if that's the expected behavior. Oh, thats not good. Yes the Optiphot Labophot series trinoc heads all have the same select...

Also, does anyone know how to remove the optical path selection knob on a Nikon Q head (I'm assuming the procedure would be the same for other Nikon trinoc heads with a knob/rod selector). Trying to unscrew the knob gets me nowhere, as the knob turns and turns but remains attached, and without remo...

Upon inspection it was observed that only one surface was defective. Do you suppose the octagonal prism was once a half-silvered mirror? If so will the performance of the bino-head be seriously affected without the ion deposit? Jim Like I said, if the half silvered portion is mucked up, it's junk. ...

That there is a nosepiece for 160mm tube length objectives. The lens is to correct for a greater than 160mm mechanical tube length, as the mechanical path is longer with this particular nosepiece. The tube lense you're looking for is actually in the very bottom of the binocular or trinocular head of...

The epoxy looks like a botched repair, courtesy of bicycle repairman, to me. Is this the combination prism that merges the right and left? Is there a half silvered mirror beneath that looks mucked up? If that half silvered portion is damaged, it's dumpster fodder, and time to look for another head. ...

I wonder why no one makes them anymore. What are the makers of such fine instruments offering/using as an alternative? Craig These are obsolete, having been replaced by microbeam analysis instruments. The number of individuals who can actually put one to good use, is rapidly dwindling, if you know ...

Enrico, If I was pursuing this direction, I would look for a stand that allowed the stage carrier to be lowered or raised on a dovetail, to allow much thicker specimens than microscope slides. Such stands would be a Nikon Optiphot 1 or 2, Leitz Ortholux 2, or Leitz Orthoplan. Also the Olympus BH2, I...
