Very interesting! I had wondered if the MOG 50 mm would not be a great macro lens for micro four thirds cameras. The ripples really bring out the personality of this lens. One of the best examples I've seen.

The lucky one?

From time to time there has been discussion on this forum on how many of the blue butterflies have "eye spots" and "false antennae" on their hind wings in order to fool predators into attacking the tail rather than the head. they also use various behaviours to enhance the deception, such as turning ...

Nice picture! It's a good example of how one can use stacking to get "creamy" uncluttered backgrounds which would be much less pleasing if one had used the aperture to get the same depth of field. I find the idea of that camera quite appealing too, because a few great macro photo's can really make a...

Thanks Leonardturner. I also like it when the photographer shares some thoughts about his or her picture, it sort of lets one into their world. Thank you Troels for commenting so often on other people's posts with encouragement and insights. I think that butterflies are one kind of animal that can b...

Butterflies pollinating Kleinia flowers

I have only quite recently become aware of Kleinias as a great choice for water-wise gardening. They also seem to be particularly attractive to whites and swallowtail butterflies. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/6547_P8140100cropshare_1.jpg Green banded swallowtail - Papilio nireus lya...

Nice picture! Enough depth of field to have most of the butterfly mostly sharp, with a bit of foreground for context, but still keeping a dreamy uncluttered background. Well done.

Thanks that makes sense. They really are powerful predators. I have seen them carry quite big butterflies far.

Glad you survived it Michael! Lou, is the thinking that the males actually favour hunting prowess in the females, or is it more a case of females which are already eating are less likely to eat a suitor which doesn't impress?

Nice shot. It's great when you get the opportunity for a spontaneous shot while you are preparing for a "planned" photograph.

Thanks for sharing the moment Beatsy and lou. If I hadn't got the picture I probably wouldn't have told anyone for fear of not being believed.

Thank you Eric LaGasa for the compliment. It's amazing just how generous the experts on this forum are both with knowledge and encouragement. I was very excited to find out that that pupa is of a parasitic wasp! I had noticed the wasps lurking about that tree and showing an interest in the Acrea cate...

Thanks Lou. When I just got the EM1 I nearly filled the card with a bit of stuff I wanted and a lot I didn't. My plan to fix that problem seems to have been limiting the usefulness of some of the features of this camera that I had wanted so badly in the first place.Just for those reading this thread...
