Re: Pieris
Is it me or is the latest image reversed?
I've attached a portion which I adjusted slightly and reversed.

Re: An Alligator Assimilated
Nice photo essay! From researchgate.net, "Blow Flies Visiting Decaying Alligators ..." , we find at bugguide.net, Cochliomyia macellaria or an example of an individual . That search was surprisingly quick. There are likely many other decomposing mechanisms and species at play. From BugGuide, Cochlio...

Re: Iridescent Butterfly Wing Scale @ 100x
Directional lighting aligned with the longitudinal ribs? That's generally how I did mine here (fifth image). The one mm object distance insured that no other lighting interferred with the imaging process and the wing/scale orientation basically aimed toward the side light source. P.S. As I look clos...

Re: Foraging Rotifer.
I can clearly see food items enter the mouth where they are held until moved into the mastax, after which they emerge into the stomach in a degraded condition. One instance begins at 0:44 (link) . Follow the bright green blob far left. It moves toward the rotifer before it does a loop-de-loop as it'...

Re: New olympus 90mm 2x macro
Thanks for posting your comparison. I'm wondering why the target images are different sizes for each lens even though the pretense is that all are shot at 1:1. What am I missing?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking the same. I made no effort to sharpen them or work with the RAW images. Perhaps there is more to be gained.

Re: Colias sp.
These are Colias philodice (Edit changed from C. eurytheme to C. philodice). The expired specimen showed up in my car in January. I've found several publications which explain the scale structures: Researchers Switch Off Gene to Switch On Ultraviolet in Butterfly Wings researchgate.net/figure/Colias...

Re: Adapter For Enlarging Lens advice
Pentax is M42 x 1mm and the Nikon El uses the Leica thread M39 x 26tpi. Check that adapter is intended for this use, it is quite common. There are other variations on the M42 and M39 threads. P.S. I should add, a typical bellows setup is reverse mounted and would require the appropriate filter threa...

Re: New olympus 90mm 2x macro
I have to agree with Lou. The departure from infinity focus is the issue, not the focal length. As far as sensor coverage, the physical size of the tube lens aperture will restrict the coverage, i.e. for a shorter focal length tube lens, a larger aperture setting will be required to cover the same a...

Obviously work that's beyond me. Is there any chance of teasing a 3D view out of the stacks?

Dark, if it matters. You definitely captured the 3rd dimension as it looks globular. I can't imagine that being a beginners feat.

For a bit of effort you get a top tier lens.
One adapter or two? An excellent lens for a song?
