Aphid massacre

Haven''t been able to photograph much lately but here are few new shots. Over the course of a few days I observed a blackberry shoot with a very robust aphid "infestation". Very quickly the aphid predators arrived on the scene. I've seen syrphid fly, lady bug and lacewing larvae devour aphids on man...

dinoflagellate Noctiluca scintillans

Last time I used my plankton net there were a great many Noctiluca present. There can be very dense "blooms" of these creatures in Puget Sound (and in many areas worldwide). They also emit a soft blue bioluminescence when the water is disturbed. http://www.krebsmicro.com/forumpix/retouched-5717-5724...

Eggs on waters surface (mosquito?)

I came across a few small "rafts" of eggs on the surface of a really "ripe" outdoor container. After photographing them I kept them in a dish of clean spring water hoping to see what would hatch out. Unfortunately they succumbed to the bacteria and fungus they were laid on. So I never found out what...

Paramecia

Not enough scope-time lately. But I do have a few new images that I'll post this week. Had a good session with some paramecia recently. Here are a few shots. http://www.krebsmicro.com/forumpix/0041_1024tai.jpg http://www.krebsmicro.com/forumpix/0163-v2-1024tai.jpg http://www.krebsmicro.com/forumpix/...

Alex, The first thing to do is to make certain that you are, in fact, utilizing EFSC. (Based on what you have said, it certainly does sound like you are). Canon started out great as a low vibration DSLR with the 40D and 50D models. Unfortunately after that it has been a mixed bag. While they make wi...

These are great!

The "auto stacking" with the Olympus bodies and that lens is amazing.

Freshwater plant. ID?

This is a freshwater plant that I found in an old sample kept outside. I'm curious if anyone might have some ID information. I'd like to learn more about this species. The cytoplasmic streaming seen through the microscope is remarkable. Here again I am curious about the round "spiked balls" flowing ...

"botanicals"

This is the time of year I like to explore inside flower buds that are not yet opened. The Camellia at my front door is usually one target. That what you see in the first three pictures. The forth is the inside of a Clematis bud, Here illuminated with UV, the pale green/yellow of the stamens take on...
