Hi Mitch,

If I knew what "made out like a bandit" meant I'd say thanks (or maybe not) - depends.....

Rik,
I don't know how the repeat entry immediately above Mitch's reply slid in again, obviously finger trouble on my part. Please remove if it offends.

I don't know where the images have disappeared to, I'll have another try.....

No, I've "uploaded" each image and pressed "send" in each case but nothing is appearing.

I'm obviously doing something wrong, can anybody help???

Thank you Pau. I've posted before, but a while ago now, and had forgotten that step in the process. Third time lucky? JML Substitute?

I recently bought a handful of lenses from Surplus Shed to play with. None were costly, the most expensive being $8. On test two were OK and produced acceptable images, but one was outstanding for the price. It was a Japanese made lens with no identifying marks except "23X" and was listed by Surplus...

For El Niks I do the same as Enrico - paper tube, flock lined and a slide fit on the matt black protrusion holding the rear (now front) element.

Hi John, The first three images were the result of studio shots taken using a vertical rig fitted with a Stackshot unit. In each case the subject was illuminated by a single IKEA led desk lamp firing through two concentric velum cylinders. Optics were: First image - El Nik 63mm f2.8 @ f5.6 on 120mm ...

Rik, Betty thank you - I'll look more closely to see if I can find any without the exit hole. If I'm successful I'll follow Charles' example, although I doubt with his level of perfection.

Parasite or ??????

Whilst shooting a colony of aphids I noticed these empty "husks". Although my garden seems to be particularly blessed with these creatures it was the first time that I had seen this particular phenomenon. I was intrigued by the neat circular hole located almost centrally in the back of most examples...

Playing possum

I found this spider when I was tidying up in my barn. I carried it indoors and took this quick and dirty record shot before putting it in an open dish meaning to come back to it later. I was convinced that it was dead, there was no sign of life, so you can imagine my surprise when, a full 72 hours l...

Frantic

A single shot which hardly does justice to the frantic activity that erupted when I kicked over a stone in the garden.

Hi Elf,

2000 shots for one final image? I thought that my (sometimes) 200 was excessive;I don't think that I'll be bidding if you put a camera body on ebay.

Kind regards,
David

Thanks all - it's certainly intriguing.

Now that gmazza is looking at this from a forensic perspective does this mean that we have CSI on the case?

Kind regards,
David

Ken, thanks for "exoskeleton". I'd always associated the word with something hard like an earwig not appreciating that it could be used for a fly, which I think of as being somewhat "squashy". Everything is relative, I suppose. Re tornados, we've not seen any on the IOW recently, but we've had a goo...

Ouch, that hurt!

As far as bugs are concerned it's still pretty slim pickings in the garden so I was quite pleased to see this fly perched on some oat grass at the end of my pond. However, closer inspection revealed that it wasn't resting but had impaled itself (or been impaled by something?) on the end of a blade o...
