Re: MEJIRO GENOSSEN FL0530 4.0/110 FLOAT LENS TEST IS FINALLY ONLINE
actually I doubt that mejiro put all that effort into designing that lens and then was to lazy to put the rings into the right position :) my guess is rather that the lens has been tampered with, but it's interesting to collect some data from different owners. I'll check with my lenses when I'm back...

Re: MEJIRO GENOSSEN FL0530 4.0/110 FLOAT LENS TEST IS FINALLY ONLINE
However just in case someone does own it and runs into certain issues, I thought I'd share my (limited) experience with the lens. thats's some fantastic info, thanks for sharing. I always thought the F-stops and float ring would be adjusted properly, so I never checked. I usually use the lens aroun...

Re: Panasonic Lumix S 100mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 announced (L-Mount)
I personally have no interest in an autofocus lens at the moment, but I still think it's an interesting lens - for handling reasons, and also for video. I imagine autofocus could be quite a bit smoother than the other offerings too, and image performance is probably similar. in the samples I've seen...

another epic test - lots to ingest!
thanks for all the research and the hard work of presenting everything in such an approachable way.
do you have info about how big the image circle of the MTF lens in normal orientation?

Re: [Hands On] Venus Optics (a.k.a Laowa) Aurogon Macro Lens
PS. The final image file is so big, Paint.net could not even save it as uncompressed TIFF image!!! TiffError.png the maximum file size for standard TIF files is 4GB. for larger files there is the option of BigTIFF, Adobes Large Document Format (PSB), OpenEXR, PNG, or Jpeg. unfortunately none of the...

Re: How a Lens Creates an Image, low NA vs high NA, Huygens OpticsVideo
by todays understanding, light clearly consists of particles (well, at least in the same way that an electron is a particle). It's just that until we measure it, the probability of its location is described by a wave function. If light (photon) is a particle, then what is a particle? that's a very ...

Re: How a Lens Creates an Image, low NA vs high NA, Huygens OpticsVideo
it's likely that I didn't use all the terms accurately, as my knowledge of quantum mechanics comes more as a hobby rather than in-depth studies... Bottom line is that it works great to model light as a wave. The surprising part -- astonishing really -- is that whatever results you get with the wave ...

Re: How a Lens Creates an Image, low NA vs high NA, Huygens OpticsVideo
I'm not picking sides but I thought light was both? that's a common way used to describe the fact that there is some really odd behaviour, which seem to contradict our conventional view of the world. but quantum mechanics is extremely successful to describe this behaviour, to a point that there's p...

Re: How a Lens Creates an Image, low NA vs high NA, Huygens OpticsVideo
thanks for posting the video, I very much enjoyed the visualisations. I find it a bit funny though, that he says that physic books use rays to simplify things, while in reality light consists of waves. now while this model works very well for calculating optics, by today pretty much the whole physic...

Re: Pixel shift: 4 x megapixels but how much more resolution?
I can't speak for sonys 4x vs 16x capture image shift, but for me a good estimate of an images "true" information stored in a digital image is to downscale it by a factor of x, then upscale it again by 1/x to the original resolution, and finding the factor where the process doesn't result in any inf...

Re: Pixel shift: 4 x megapixels but how much more resolution?
not a genius, but I worked with pixel shift quite a lot and like to think about resolution.. short story is that the real world difference seems impossible to calculate theoretically, for several reasons. the main one is that it depends on the physical construction of the sensor, mainly fill factor ...

Re: Bellows for Fuji GFXs ii
I agree that a vintage macro lens directly adapted would be a good, convenient, low cost solution, and quality should be similar to an enlarger lens setup. There are specialised lenses which resolve quite a bit more detail, specially in the corners, but those are usually more expensive and only cove...
