WHat happens is you shorten the image distance, and the object distance increases, at about the same rate, so the sensor to subject distance stays about the same. eg for a 50mm lens, if 101 + 99 = 200 99 + 101 is also 200 Magnification has gone from 101/99 to 99/101 though. I feel a spreadsheet comi...

DO excuse me, I looked in the FAQs and found this, thereafter didn't look for anything else! Can I post Images? Images can indeed be shown in your posts. However, there is no facility at present for uploading images directly to this board. Perhaps an edit would be in order  I'll fiddle around ...

 the little lens in the second scheme could be one designed for a ccd camera; very short focus and about the right size. V cheap on ebay. I used Word for these sketches. Turn the GRID on Use the Freeform tool for most shapes, then "Edit Points" to bend it about. eg, make the apex of a triangle...

Interesting paper. A few thoughts: Unlike with the LED, the light source will be come distance from the end of the fibres, so the acceptance angle is fairly small. The paper refers to connection (to led) methods which are obviously poor and good, but there's only 80% against 96% transmittance. Not t...

There's a hidden message if one can get away with hinting it:

"I'm a professional madam, and it still leaked but I know what to do about it. Imagine what a mess your hubby would have made."

I used to be a programmer : assembler, C, C++, VB, SQL, but I got made redundant a lot in old age (35).

Snoots. Bowens, Elinchrom and whatnot. I have a couple of snoots, somewhere. One is black inside, and others white. Mostly of course they're used to mask light so you just get a spot, more or less. None of them concentrated the light, that I'd noticed. I was thinking about snoots today while I was m...

Daft of me, it's clearly natural light, on lovely days I imagine. SO much more appealing than harsh flash. Delightful!

If you come up with a design for perspex which is difficult to cut, try a sign maker. A Neighbour of mine does it, using a high pressure water jet for lettering etc. It'll cut plastics, Paxolin, Stainless steel, anything really, to high accuracy and intricacy. I expect it could be made to cut a pris...

And too as well, :?: :?: :?: does it matter whether you go forwards or backwards, and does it matter if some pics are out of sequence? I mean, one could go through the eyes, etc at sharper aperture, then cover background foliage at a bigger step with a smaller aperture to get more DOF. Exposure comp...

I like these, especially the third. So often a mating shot is side-on with no depth.

Joking, moi? Rik, do you really mean you don't have a formula?? :P  Eric, how big is that target at the end of the bunch of fibers?? I think before I bought anything I'd play around with a camera lens to concentrate the light just to see if it works. To see where the light's going, yo...

Eric - Rik will now give you a formula you can use with Excel to draw a curve for an aspheric lens. Cut it out of 2mm MDF, use as a guide to turn a mold/mould on a wood lathe, paint with varnish and while it's sticky blow a kid's baloon into it. Pour resin in and make your aspheric lens. A slide pro...

Not sure why condenser lenses should be aspherical, Eric. They're usually plano-convex, afaik, often in pairs so both outer faces are flat. Essentially what you'd be doing is getting an image of the flash head onto the inlet end of the fibers. How big is that? SOmewhere I have about 3 enlargers, and...

1. SUch a microscope objective is proving very elusive! If anyone knows of a CFN 0.3 10X, please let me know! Somebody must have tried using lenses designed for CCTV, such as this, 12mm f0.8 I read of someone trying a Ciné lens and being surprised it worked reasonably. They go down of course, to a c...

However good my optics are, Professor Abbé's blob will splat about 9 of my pixels, so I'm down to 1.35Mpixels. May as well use a cellphone stack!
