@JayMcClellan Thanks for the nice comment! Stereo pictures are a bit more demanding to retouch. So I usually try do make them as clean as possible in Adobe LR before stacking. The new AI feature to remove noice helps but for me the most import step is to try to eliminate all dust spots and hot pixel...

I think it is quite possible to do ok with a 100x NA 0.9.
I have also seen yellow (and orange scales) look that the ones you have in the first picture but with lower NA.
May I ask how you light the subject?

No formula - more trial and error with combinations of tubes with fixed lengths, My best guess from the distances I did test is that optimum might be a little shorter.
