So the bottom thread is C mount and the top thread?
Hi John,

I would have to dig it out but as it fits on the Nikon Coolpix filter thread, it is probably M28x0.75 (same as the Leitz Periplan 10x/18 eyepiece).

Re: DSLR adaptation to Nikon AZ100 38mm Photoport

Background: I got the AZ-TP DSC 0.6x monocular phototube for my slowly growing AZ100M macro/micro frankescope Its photoport inner diameter is 38mm and the only option shown at Nikon literature is with 1X C-mount adapter 11mm FN for small sensor Digital Sight Series cameras. The tube lens is placed ...

Re: "Disastrous" (completely unexpected!!) 100x oil immersion objective comparison

I don't really understand that technique. Maybe I'm overthinking it? So a drop or two of cleaning liquid on a piece of lens tissue, then stretch it and run it into the objective? Getting anything microscope related in Australia is a struggle, lens tissues included. I'm quite conservative with the u...

Re: "Disastrous" (completely unexpected!!) 100x oil immersion objective comparison

Silicone oil immersion objectives seem to have even better characteristics than water. Higher NA and greater DOF. I wonder how difficult, or rather annoying the oil is to clean up. Cleaning up immersion oil is a major headache, it also ruins the stickers on the slides. But only if you object is emb...

Re: "Disastrous" (completely unexpected!!) 100x oil immersion objective comparison

I'd also love to try out silicone oil immersion objectives, they are however expensive and the immersion oil is very expensive too, I was quoted $200 a bottle. You could try matching the RI by using a glycerol solution (51 % at 20C) although dispersion will probably be different between glycerol an...

Re: A couple macro questions

I'm in the market for a good macro lens, so I've been doing some research lately. I'll be using it more for insects than herps. Second, has anyone used a reverse mounted lens for macro work? Hi, Are the insects very mobile? There's a big difference between bugs that you can approach to within a few...

Re: Disastrous 100x oil immersion objective comparison

There's a multiple studies of this phenomenon in scientific literature, both theoretical and practical, which showed the fact that coverglass thickness won't matter on PSF of oil immersion objectives, as long as all conditions are optimal (oil immersion optical properties are highly influenced by e...

Re: Disastrous 100x oil immersion objective comparison

I don't think there's anything wrong with those crops. The Fl (semi-apo), while significantly better corrected than an achro, will still show color fringing in areas of extreme contrast as in this case. Even the Super-Apo is showing some mild fringing. The N is a plain achromat, so no wonder it is ...

Re: Disastrous 100x oil immersion objective comparison

Hi, I'm not sure what to make of this. How can there be colour finging in the centre with the UPlanFL? If the Plan N has fringes like this in the centre and in focus, it is likely defective. Could there be oil inside (not uncommon for the Plan Ns)? I don't have it myself but maybe someone could post...

Re: Reversed zoom lens technical questions

I know chasing "better" is probably silly, Ultimately, you would get the best if you shoot with a large aperture (just stopped down far enough to suppress spherical aberration) and then do focus stacking, if your subject is suitable for stacking. I'm also interested in an answer to your other initi...

Re: Reversed zoom lens technical questions

Hi, You're right. I had deleted my post, just before you made your reply, when I realised that was the case. Now Johan's deglassed lens makes more sense; the simple auto reverse adapter solution for Canon isn't available for Pentax. My guess is that the aperture of such a deglassed lens is not in an...

Re: Moisture in my Raynox lens. Suggestions?

Dessicant + time!

A few weeks in dry rice or fresh silica gel at moderate temperatures (20C or below, even in an airtight container in the fridge, so you don't encourage mold).

Re: Another odd thread

Hi Ray,

Zeiss Jena metallurgical objectives (epi-illumination; infinity tube length, pre-CF250) had an M19x0.75 thread. Though unlikely that it had any relation to our lenses.

Re: Help needed: DIC components necessary for my Oly

The HR designation in Oly's DIC stuff does not mean high resolution ! For those who are learning like myself, here's their designations for DIC. Do not get fooled by the name just like I did  [...] U-DICTHR: For thick specimens, high contrast ones. They have blue text. HR here does not mean h...
