Nice pictures!
Incredible animals, probably the only animal looking more scary than a spider.
Imagine, there is a fossil representative up to 1,5 meters....
Cheers,
Barry

Interesting data. Recently I tested a 12cm Macro-Nikkor, 63mm Luminar, 50mm and 63mm El-nikkors (N-series) and a Tominon 105mm. Camera was Canon 450D (now replaced). Bellows draw available up to 600mm. Illumination was fibre optics through transparent paper. Did not print the images - my opinion is ...

Pinned specimen orientator
In a previous thread http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8118 several types of specimen stages were discussed. I decided to produce a few of one type: the compact spherical one. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/634_sm1_1.jpg http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpi...

Regarding the White Balance, I did some research. Apparently, to set the WB custom to a colour temperature is not the same (at least in the Canon 50D) as when an other setting (e.g. Auto, or Daylight) picks the same colour temperature. This because there is no colour correction (green/magenta, etc) ...

Today I tested Auto WB vs. my standard workflow (manually set to 4400), and in Auto WB it does not give the colour cast. Great - but as Lauriek points out, I used to avoid anything which is "auto" in order to get a controlled, repeatable workflow. I'll play around with a lower colour temp. and let y...

Thanks, NU. The reason I asked is because with my current setup I get images which have a little too much green/blue in it. To correct this, I put a little piece of greycard in the frame, which I can select later in Paint Shop Pro to adjust white balance. I thought you may do the same - your images ...

Very beautiful! If I may ask for the post-processing: A while ago you posted a picture of your setup. A gray-card was used as background. I suspected you used this to select for your white balance, but when I look at several of your images the background varies from grey to white. How do you control...

A grasshopper....I see the problem. In such case, the mounting surface of the positioner could be flat, rather than concave. Now you can position the pin/base such that the grasshoppers' face is in the centre. But as you say, Charles: what is the centre? One could find out when looking perpendicular...

What a brainstorm! The ideas remain separated in luxurous goniometer on one hand, and compact, spherical on the other. To have a specimen in the centre of rotation, I would think it be nice if you'd have pins of a fixed length. Now, if one would have a pin/needle on a magnet, in a spherical scale, i...
