Re: Diatoms - Coscinodiscus marginatus and Eupyxidicula sp.

Really nice!

Am I correct in thinking that only the diatoms are SEM images, while the base, back, and shadows are synthetic?

Re: Zerene and hand-held focus stacking "manually"

Hi, I'm the fellow who wrote Zerene Stacker. I apologize for having overlooked this thread earlier. I load them into Zerene and sort the input files by size, which I take it will also sort them by focus depth. I assume that you're referring to File > "Re-order input files" > "Sort by Scale". With mo...

Wow -- I did not expect there would be that many layers of pink scales!

Re: No sharpness when using mitutoyo 10x (also halo, low contrast)

Mitutoyo 5x (notice that here there are more details on the spider's hairs than on the 10x) I downloaded the full resolution pictures from Flickr and did some study. What I see depends on the scale that I look. Here is a screen capture of Photoshop, showing corresponding areas from the 10X HR at 20...

A very pleasing image indeed!

I look forward to hearing the story of the modding of your macro setup.

I also note "tilted back 35-40 degrees", so of course I would love to see stereo. <insert begging puppy emoticon here>

Re: Fun with the AstrHori 25mm

I am mystified by the software used here and can not figure out how to move the appropriate 6x image here. If any moderator would care to fix it for me, I would appreciate it. I'll be happy to help, if the problem has not already been solved. At the bottom of the thread I see a "6x adding 26mm tube...

Re: The pirate spider

This is not a real poster. Maybe. But it's not a slam dunk. On the side of "not a real poster", we see broken English and IP addresses that trace to China while the nominal address is Los Angeles. On the other side, the website that appears in the signature does exist, talks about spiders, has a "c...

Re: Lens recomendation for film reproduction

I will wait for somebody else to pitch in about that (like Rik who is good in crunching numbers) Not me. If somebody else can make sense of the magnification/extension/FL weirdness, I would be interested to hear. But I can't make the numbers work either, and given the optical performance it's not w...

Re: Rio Bigal Reserve: Ecuador II

Wonderful photos, as always! The feeding leech is especially remarkable! I've never seen that. I am confused about the ID. If I'm looking at the right photo, Paul calls it a "land planarian". But Wikipedia tells me that "leech" is phylum Annelida, while planarian is phylum Platyhelminthes. Visually ...

Re: Software LoCA analysis

In quick search, the most relevant thing I found was https://smallpond.ca/jim/photomicrography/focusAnalyser/howto.html . It uses a web-based tool located at https://smallpond.ca/jim/photomicrography/focusAnalyser/index.html . I checked that the tool seems to be live, but did not attempt to test it ...
