Hey Robert, How do you mount this lens specifically? I've read your references to the M52-M50 adapter and your SM2/M52 studio setup but I'm scratching my head about the best way to mount this lens. I'm guessing you could either have two M52-M50 step down rings threaded over the middle part of the le...

I wonder if the flex and play in the mechanics of gorillapod arms and goosenecks help stop them from unthreading compared to rigid Magic/articulating arms. That's always been a problem for me in the field with them, even when mounted vertically, it only takes a small bit of sideways movement with a ...

I was looking at the same item recently but I bought two of these for €56 each instead. Definitely expensive but I was hoping for good quality and something that will last a long time. https://novoflexus.com/products/other-photographic-solutions/flash-holding-system/novoflex-marm-k.htm To be honest...

Hey Mike, I just got into PCB manufacturing myself and have a question about the small holes in the ground plane. I can't work out their purpose. They don't look like vias, I wouldn't think they're required for thermal regulation, I assume they're not helping to reduce impedance or interference wit...

On this topic, I found the recent video from Applied Science quite interesting:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr1AiExSAnU
He mentions that the reflectance of store-bought black velvet was about 0.5% if I remember correctly.

At risk of derailing this thread any further - how can you force a stepper into its cog position, or in the case of microstepping, force it to stop at a 1/4 step or 1/2 step position while running at 1/8, 1/16, etc microsteps? Cam, The stepper "cog" position is the natural unpowered rotor position,...

Someone could run tests and plot the rotor angle deflection vs. external load torque at different micro-step rotor positions. I don't think this is exactly what you're after but might help: https://hackaday.com/2016/08/29/how-accurate-is-microstepping-really/ I'm ill-equipped to contribute meaningf...

I've always attempted to have step positions that are integer increments of the motor full step for this very reason. Hey Mike, do you mean that you still run the stepper in microstep mode but try to ensure that you always move in full-step increments? Can this also work if you're microstepping at ...

Hi Kaleun96, I use TMC5130A via SPI. STEP/DIR wouldn’t make any sense. So, I have to calculate/determine the target-position and send it to the driver. In my case the speed of the processor doesn’t play any role. I’m afraid the speed of the step-motor is the bottle neck :-( You only can improve the...

Could you tell me how long takes to run a certain distance quietly with your setup? I'm using the TMC2130 myself (though I should maybe upgrade to the TMC2209 eventually) and can complete about 140mm of travel (35mm to the back, change direction and 70mm to the front, change direction and 35mm to t...

Thanks for the test Robert! Shame about the Sony 90mm, wonder if it was just that particular sample or all are that bad. I have the Laowa 100mm 2x f2.8 so would have been cool to see that but can understand it may still be hard to borrow at this stage. I wouldn't expect anything spectacular from it,...
