Interesting picture. I can't ID the Algae, but is that a 'halo' of bacteria I can see, spirochaetes by the look of them, taking advantage of the photosynthetic oxygen produced by the Algae?

Might be a silly idea, but has anyone tried stacking successive frames from a video. It would be trade off between frame rate, I guess 20-30fps would be desirable; and resolution. And of course the beastie would be moving in more than one plane durring the acquisition time. But with a good camera an...

Paul, if you have a look at my flight pictures in the Nature Photography section, you'll see they are of an egg laying female. These are a bit more predictable in their flight and distracted by what they are doing, giving you a better chance for a flight shot.

A favorite subject, the banded demoiselle. I have managed to get closer to this with my 105mm macro with a lot of patience, but this shot taken with the 300mm lens was the first satisfying one I got of this skittish beastie.

Closeup Shots with a 300mm Telephoto

A few shots to illustrate that you can get good close up results with a telephoto lens under the right circumstances. I find it difficult to approach some insects close enough to use a 100mm macro lens without disturbing them, though others seem to have this skill. Dragon and damsel flies can be par...

Of course if the original question was 'can you ever get useful closeups from a telephoto lens' then the answer, if you are using good glass and can accept fairly heavy crops, is definitely yes. In fact for larger skittish insects such as dragon and damsel flies it can be very useful, with or withou...

I love Klaus' work. It's great that there are a few people keeping alive the skills and dedication of the Victorian Diatom mounters.

Thanks Davide. That is obviously a good camera. I am impressed with the quality of the still images you are getting from it. I have considered adding a C-mount camera to my equipment, but was unsure just how good the the images would be.

Is that oblique lighting with your new setup that you mentioned in your other post.? Very nice effects. Are the red dots pigment? Can I ask what camera you are using now?

That Lomo oblique condenser works very well. I have seen pictures taken using it before and some of them were almost of interference contrast standard. I wish it were easily adaptable to other stands.

The Leitz Vario-Orthomat Variable Zoom Photoeyepiece

Stimulated by the interest of fellow forumite and Vario-Orthomat user Hindpool, I thought I would post a few comments on this interesting and not well known zoom photoeyepiece. I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I’m sure our excellent moderators will move it if it isn’t. The...

Some nice pictures here. Good resolution and sense of depth. Is it possible to have some information on your setup. Microscope, objectives, method of illumination, camera etc.
