Both versions of the Labophot will accept 45mm diameter filters on their filed lenses. If you're using the lower simple pol accessory, I would think that the polarizer will fit the Labophot-2. The Raynox DCR-150 is 4.8diopters which equals to f=210mm. Your setup looks a bit longer than 210mm from the Raynox to the camera image plane. Taking a few extention tubes off the front would probably get you to inf. * And, yes you still can get images from infinity objectives and tube lenses that a...

Technical questions are already answered above, but from a users perspective, LWD, ELWD condensers in a upright setup help when you have to use dipping objectives. Must have when you're doing electro-physiology experiments.

Cheers,
John

Yeah, lightguides that are resistant to heat are nice but heat cycling those things will eventually craze the fused ends making them opaque. Getting optics hotter than you can touch is a big no-no (.... well, at least in a microscope facility.) Thermal IR is in the near 10micrometers of wavelength, ...

Well, since 830nm isn't even near thermal IR, if you only need 830nm NIR LEDs might be more efficient than halogen bulbs. (Since they have experience imaging in NIR, they shouldn't have problems with alignment) Most cheap IR filters in projectors and microscope illuminators are absorption filters th...

The iris is probably holding the polariser. The Minolta 5400 lens has grovings, using an iris allows one to convert it into normal threaded mounts easily. Reminds me of those iris flange mounts for vintage barrel lenses in large format photography. But not sure about it being a sound idea. He's usi...

I wonder why there's a rodenstock lens under the mitsutoyo... or is it just the iris?

Well, there would be physical constraints and design goals that would be in the way in using an objective outside its intended parameters. (You could also have some firm design a special objective if your pockets allow...) However, if the problem you are facing is just peering through 2mm of nd=1.7 ...

Absolutely. As Lou points out in the ref. paper, SA induced by coverslip thickness and index variations will differ with wavelength. However, how and how far it is compensated for depends on the objective. As already pointed out in previous messages, normal achromats are usually SA corrected for onl...

Yikes! Thanks Pau, you've enlightened me!
I'm then curious, why didn't they just use their normal CFW 10x, 8x eyepieces? Perhaps the field flattening parameters were different?

Hmm? I thought the CF Photo 10x, 8x were projectives meant for 4x5 film.
