I use the Nikkor-Q 200mm, whose versions are discussed here: https://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/6070nikkor/telephoto/200mm.htm A 52mm adapter to Mitu thread size connects the lens to objective. The 200 mm f/4 AI and AIS lenses are the successors to the 200 mm f/4 N...

How many images were stacked? I ask because DSLR Controller sometimes chooses seventy or more exposures. I'm using continuous lighting because I'm not terribly inclined to cook my good Sigma flash with 77 consecutive actuations. As others have noted using low magnification, even @ ISO 64, I need on...

"For more extreme macro, one would likely want to use mirror up and allow a settle time for vibrations to die down after raising the mirror and before taking the shot. Also, one might want to use electronic first shutter if available. Depending on the camera, this could be difficult to accomplish i...

I do not have Helicon Tube, but looking at the picture on their site, it seems that there is a photo sensor that detects flashes going off, so this is one way to get that signal (camera has taken a picture) In looking at the Helicon web site, I can find no manual for the FB Tube, but I infer from t...

Helicon Tube?

On browsing the Helicon site, I saw a page on Helicon Tube which is a short extension ring that can automate focus stacking by micro-stepping auto-focus lenses with Nikon and Canon autofocus lenses with a built in motor. It costs US$200 and appears interesting. Does anyone have experience with this ...

Those are only protective cover glass, not optical elements. No alignment needed. Heat the epoxy with a hair dryer heat and scrape offf the epoxy edges and pry the glasses out. Clean both sides and reinstall with 5 min epoxy or just leave off entirely if you're comfortable with that. This is a chea...

I tried to clean a fogged stereo microscope by removing those two elements. But they are carefully aligned by the manufacturer and I could not re-align them manually when I tried to put the scope back together. Comparing the images posted side by side by Rik, I still find the RL deconvolution version better than the USM: clearer detail and less chromatic aberration. Detail fake or not it seems an excellent algorithm. Roger Clark , an astrophysicist with extensive digtal image processing experience, has pu...

Advice on Nikon SMZ-1B Stereo Scope

I just purchased a Nikon SMZ-1B stereo microscope on ebay and the overall condition of the scope appears good the the images seen through the scope appear crisp with good contrast. However, I noted some type of fogging on the protective covers at the objective side as shown below. External cleaning ...

Carrying Case For Stackshot

I have a an extended rail stackshot and am interested in using it in the field with a battery pack. I am looking for some type of carrying case in which I can safely transport the setup into the field. The cardboard box with foam inserts that the unit came with is one option, but not that elegant. I...

Can I purchase a 'repro' stand or will I have to make it myself? Perhaps I may just get a camera that has the electronic first curtain shutter - do you know of any models offhand that use F-Mount lenses that have that feature any chance? The Nikon D810 was the first Nikon dSLR to have EFCS. My D800...
