Therefore, those small ripples would not cause sudden change in power output, significantly enough to cause flickering. For example, if I crank up voltage to 9.5V from 8.85V, current goes up from 0.1A to about 0.3A. Those ripples looks like less than 10mV. This equates to ~2 ohms total series LED r...

Interesting videos!!

The Fast LED Strobe design we presented should have no trouble keeping up and synching with a 1000 frames per second (1ms) camera.

LEDs are fundamentally semiconductor junctions and have a exponential relationship between current & voltage. You may need to measure/see the LED current, not the LED voltage, which might be contributing to the flicker. Place a small (~1 ohm ~1 watt) resistor in series with the LED and monitor the ...

Another option is the Wemacro Raynox 150 tube lens (Pro). https://www.wemacro.com/?product=raynox-dcr-150-tube-lens-pro Best, This is a nice option for a turn-key setup. I would recommend 2 inch/M52/SM2 system parts over M42 x 1mm units. Pro-tip: Watch out when using this type of QR clamp. I would ...

Hi Viktor, I recieved the two ZK-4KX and hooked one up to my microscope illumination, which is a Cree XM-L2 attached to a aluminum rod with Arctic silver in-between. Unfortunately, the ZK-4KX didn't solve all my problems. Problem 1: too bright and flickering at lowest setting. This problem was the ...

In communications (where these theorems originated) recent work has been pushing the limits beyond Nyquist. Most have thought of Nyquist as a limit, but as far back as 1975 Mazo at Bell Labs had shown it is not an absolute limit barrier, but could be "broken" in fact under certain signaling conditi...

Cam, Thanks for the update on these, glad to see someone realize that the Trinamic PCB was seriously hampered by forcing into the Step/Dir mode, and not allowing access to the full suite of chip features. Hopefully these Watterott v1.4 versions will appear over here at Digikey or Mouser so I can ge...

The TMC5160 BOB has SD_MODE (pin 21) tied to ground with R2, and a position for R1 to tie to Vcc_IO. I have no idea why they didn't do this with the StepStick, seems like a silly oversight IMO! Hey Mike, just noticed Watterott now have a v1.4 version of the TMC5160 that can enable the SD_MODE Motio...

Rik, Nice explanation, well done!! There's a very good article on Wiki about the Nyquist-Shannon Sampling Theorm, that includes an optical section. Also an excellent visulation of how bandwidth limits in the frequency domain affects reconstructed signals in the time domain. https://en.wikipedia.org/...

Incidentally, I think my new, improved extreme rig will help some here. For the *very* small stuff of 250 microns or less (which this rig is particularly optimised for), I can get consistent 125nm steps when it's motorised (TBD) but can manage a fairly consistent 200nm manually already. This done b...

I had a few of the YN560, 568 and 622 long ago. After melting a couple, burning my hand on the batteries, messing up quite a few stacks because of misfires, exposure variations, slow recycle times, RF trigger problems, and not being able to complete large S&S sessions (batteries overheated/drained),...
