I am surprised by the electronic shutter on the D850. Wonder why none of Canon's flagship DSLRs have that feature.

Maybe I am missing something--wouldn't RGB channels photographed separately be just as misaligned as they would be from a combined (white) light source? I wouldn't think that separating the channels would have any effect on the achromaticity of the lens. I can see how a single monochrome image would...

DSLRs with full electronic shutter?

I am nearing the rated shutter life of my Canon 6D, and am starting to think about a replacement. Are there any DSLRs other than the Pentax K1 that have a full electronic shutter mode? It seems wasteful to me to use a mechanical shutter for macro work when most DSLRs are rated for <200,000 shots. Al...

Fascinating image, and an exceptionally difficult subject to photograph. All of those translucent and reflective bits rendered very well.

The upper right corner seems to have the best contrast. What is the field of view? It would be great to isolate the whole subject on a black background.

My favorite rails are simple linear micrometer rails such as:

Very solid and precise, and it's easy enough to hook them up to a stepper motor.

What do you have to look for when finding a power source? Would any 6V power supply work for a flash that uses 4 1.5V AA batteries in series?

Wall-powered flash?

I'm looking for a good wall-powered flash or studio strobe. I'm currently using speedlights with rechargable batteries, but it's not practical to swap batteries so often and put up with inconsistent recycle times. Are there any options that are compact enough to squeeze into a macro rig, and less th...

Thanks, Beatsy.

Can a condenser also be used for reflected light? I imagine that the light would be very hard.

I have also tried using parabolic mirrors, with some success.

Lighting Solutions

Hi guys, I have been using cheap battery-powered speedlights for microscopy, but I run into problems with power and recycle time for deep, high-magnification stacks. Are there any fast, bright lighting solutions that you recommend? Or, can the power of a cheap speedlight be amplified by a condensor?...

Thank you! I am going out to collect some more subjects this afternoon, so I will update with pictures if I can remember which plants I collected these from.

Thank you! What a wonderful compliment! Often, it seems that high magnification images end up looking grotesque, but I am glad that you appreciate the beauty in these specimens.

Thanks to you both! Your comments made my day.
What is the shot from?
What do you mean, grgh? I am not sure what kind of flowers these are. I have been meaning to take photos of my specimens before going in for the stacks, but I neglected to do that this time.
