Great to something geologic here! (fossils are my photography objects).
Nice picture! I can imagine with shiny minerals like these, lighting can be difficult. Do you use the LED spotlights for these??

Only recently I built an automated focus stacker (slide and stepper, controlled by live view software). It saves a little time, but not dramatically.
But, when making a series of 40+ stacks, it really is more relaxed to have the stepper do the steps for you.

Thanks guys for the informative answers!

One additional question. Am I right if I say that it doesnt matter if you have an plan apochromat or an apochromat (non-plan) because stacking will solve the difference between the two?

Thanks,
Barry

If you see an unknown objective....

Have done a quick search but so many results turned up, that I cannot find the answer.... Looking around for microscope objectives for use on bellows (no microscope here), I know one prime feature to pay attention to is if it is infinity corrected or designed for a tube of a certain length. OK. And ...

Absolutely amazing pictures!
And, if we consider the fly......poor fellow! The mites near its mouth.....

What do you mean exactly that your system is not stable enough? (with those pictures, at 40x...?)

My comment may not be original, but: superb shots! I like picture 2, and the overall view of the beetle with black background. The black background gives a very pleasant, contrasty appearance. Illumination of the Claviger-on-black seems to be from one side, with reflector? I think it gives depth in ...

Thus this Reichert lens is f2.9 and at its optimum....good thing! Which enlarger/macro lenses are best wide open? I found them all best stopped down with 1 (macro lenses, some enlarger lenses) or 2 (most enlarger lenses) stops. The componons and apo-componons are regularly seen in fixed aperture exe...

Thanks for clearing the NA issue, Rik.
But, still, the effective aperture of a microscope objective when decreasing the magnification is better than compared with a macro/enlarger lens.....correct?

0.14 or 0.15 - the images taken with this lens look very good. Nice find, John!

If you go to 4,5x does the NA still count as 0.15?
(sorry, am not familiar with microscope objectives....)
The images look very, very clean.
