Thanks Rik...looks like qDlsrDashboard also has had some spotty support, although they recently did an update in late Dec 2015. I think the tablet will be ok as long as I can get a good OTG host cable. If none of this works, I can always fall back to the Canon EOS Utility, although I'd be using it o...

Craig (or whoever is still reading), How are you finding the Android tablet with DSLR Controller working these days? I have an Asus Memo 7 which looks to be compatible with the app. I can't say it isn't worth it to try, especially since I got the tablet for $1 in an AT&T package deal and the DSLR Co...

I wonder if that is the same problem I was having with my 5D MIII. Here is a thread where there are examples of the artifact, and some solutions offered by Rik:

For batch processing of RAW images, I mostly use DxO Optics Pro . I've been using it since v8 and it is now up to v10. You can "select all" in a folder, and then apply changes such as exposure compensation, unsharp mask, etc., and see side-by-side comparisons of the original to changed versions. If ...

Rik, do you think you're getting those dust effects due to partial-coherence in the system? Diffraction ringing around the dust is like what I've seen in interferometry setups. In the lab it is usually a full coherence effect since monochromatic sources are used. In the lab, diffusion also solves th...

What do you mean by undesirable textures? Could you clarify that or give an example please? I'm mainly talking about styrofoam that is a pressed sheet of pellets, not the smooth white polystyrene I've seen in hobby shops. The chunky texture of styrofoam and paper towels isn't the best at producing ...

I agree with Rik on this one--try to apply the appropriate white balance, either in camera or in Lightroom/Camera Raw (or both!). Incidentally--styrofoam and paper towels absorb quite a bit of light, and often have undesirable textures. Have you tried tracing paper, drafting vellum or matte mylar? O...

I haven't made any, but I own studio lighting which has a bumpy silver lining inside the soft boxes. It is a fabric, somewhat like a sunshade used in a car windshield. I think crumpled aluminum foil in a home-made soft box would be a fine material to use. Crumpled foil has the effect of giving the l...

Rik, I don't have any concrete magnification goals--I just want a tad more than I currently have because I haven't been getting the kind of edge-to-edge composition that I want. Thanks for the reminder to use the smallest limiting slice--it is true that is the full frame of my camera, so I should be...
