Robber Fly Depositing Eggs on Steel Cable - Part 2
I was prepping my robber fly picture for our photo club print competition and I noticed how OoF one leg was. It was quite distracting when printed out at 11x14 so I went back and looked through the series for a better shot. The attached was a frame in an attempted hand stack on a different portion o...

I shoot only RAW and PP each individually. The second of these was shot with a 580EX and 420EX with the insect inside and aquarium inverted. I had several opaque sheets to diffuse light, but the flashes were still too close I think. I need to move the flashes further away from the subjects. The bug...

Sorry for the late reply Lothar, it was a busy weekend. I tried to stack the images all at once but the antenna stacked out translucent so I ended up have to substack everything. I did it in batches of 20 with an overlap of 5. Zerene batch editor was quite handy for this. Lesson learned so far is if...

Nice composition and a tricky scenario to expose correctly with the dark head of the fly against the light colored background. What was the illumination source? An ancient hanimex tz1 attached to a modified flash bracket that holds the flash horizontal to the lens The bounce head then turned into t...

Hoover flies are well shot Gordon. You handled the yellow cast in the first shot well. Pollen beads are crisp indicating a steady shot. A couple hot spots here and there but tweaking with the diffuser flash position, distance, output power, should correct this. I saw your solution for the YN-14EX, v...

First shot is very well done. I like to composition and the minimalist approach, it works well in natural light. Butterfly under the leaf is a difficult one to pull off properly. A good effort but I find the overexposed leaftop very distracting. Beetle shot is very well done - is this natural light ...

Hi Sony, Overall a pleasing shot, well composed, well illuminated, and focus is on - nice job. Diffuser needs some work as there is harsh glare reflecting back from the eye, the thorax, and the wings. These are correctable with proper diffusion. Mind posting a picture of your diffuser so we can see ...
