Considering you are using onboard flash the specular highlights are well controlled. Squaring up to the eye may have caused issues though.

The undercarriage shot is excellent, as is the ant... Fantastic images Kurt! Glad to see I'm not the only one who gets eaten up by mosquitoes..

I like it Saul. Nice composition, good illumination (not to hot) and good and contrasty. I have an old Vivitar 70-180 flat field and it has good contrast too. Must be something to do with the Series 1 coating. Did you add much contrast in post?

Misc. Critters From the Past Couple Weeks

I haven't logged on in a couple weeks and was pleasantly surprised with all the submissions to the forum. Over the past couple weeks I have been shooting at various locations. I am fortunate enough to live in a rather green area of Houston. Shots are from Buffalo Bayou, feeder streams, and a local T...

Hi William, Great shot! How many frames did you take to stack? Over what duration did you take the frames? It is a real challenge to take live subjects in the field with stacking techniques. Cheers Peter Hi Peter, Thank you. This is a single image. I made several stacking passes but the fly kept mo...

Indeed a fine shot, that is very pleasing to my eyes. Sharp focus and nice details. As Rik noted the whites are blown on the wings. Not overly distracting but there. Diffused fill flash level to the subject coupled with a faster shutter speed or smaller aperture may alleviate this.

Another line of thought (not the best source of illumination either) specifically the snoot on the left:

Very easy to make out of cardboard/foamboard, light weight, and portable. I actually got some nice shots with that setup...

Before I started shooting macro I thought pollination was the domain of bees. Through field macro I have discovered there are many insects that help pollinate. If you keep hitting the flower patch you will be surprised how many beetles pollinate.
