...The immediate culprit is much simpler: the lens accepts a cone of light. This lets portions of the lens "look around" the foreground object to see detail that is logically hidden when you think about just the central ray. Would using a longer focal length lens help since they see a narrower fiel...

Thanks Chris. This is starting to make sense. Now I just need to get lucky and find some cheap objectives. I never knew they could cost that much. I have some respect for the people here that have amassed a small collection. They most probably have more disposable income than I do at this moment. :l...

I retook the stack to gather enough data to render everything in focus. But I am getting some serious ghosting in the image. Background detail is popping through into the foreground. :evil: Diffraction is the culprit. :( From what I gather I could use a telecentric lens.
