Phil,

I would doubt it as the eruption plume has not been high enough to loft material up far enough.

I believe the 60D is the one that had a bit of a vibration problem in silent mode. If you are planning one using the silent mode your results may not be as good as you hope for.

Craig, Both my 4X and 10X objectives are from Edmund Optics. According to Rik, there are issues with the 4X. I had hoped to change objectives but that is unlikely now. Since I retired in June 2010, I have paid taxes on more income than I ever made when working a full year. My wife had become paranoi...

What appears to be dust or rock particles is firmly attached. I do have an ultrasonic cleaner but I do not dare unmount the specimen to put it in the cleaner. The person I obtained these from mounted them with a very aggressive tack. I tried just moving one to get a better angle for taking a photo a...

Last Sunday I was collecting in the Capitol Forest near Porter, WA. This was in basalt quarries where we were looking for zeolites. Some of the basalt had a weathered rind with similar looking void filling to your piece. The inner, unweathered voids had a clay mineral in them. These are not visually...

When I put my rig together a couple of years ago, I ordered a stage direct from Newport. I am located in the US so that may have been the difference.

Elements series is a lite version of the Photoshop CS series. It does not have the complete tool set found in CS4 and is intended for those that do not make a living or serious hobby of photography.

Tien, I am a mineral collector and I purchased a Meiji EMZ-5TR scope a number of years ago. I used a number of different cameras on it. In the early days I just took single shots as I was unaware of stacking. When I started stacking I was not as happy with this setup and shifted to a horizontal setu...

Doug, You should look at the Canon line of dslr cameras that support silent mode. There is no mirror or mechanical shutter vibration with these when using silent mode. I use a Canon T2i where the silent mode is on by default when using live view. Make life much easier when shooting micro minerals. D...

Found this this morning. It appears that there is a light leak from the LCD screen that can affect meter readings in low light situations. Seems that the easiest fix is to turn off the backlight. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/digitalcameras/is-there-a-canon-eos-5d-mark-iii-product-recall-in-the-offing/5...

Babylonia, Certain Canon camera bodies have what is called electronic first curtain shutter. In the T2i that I use, when placed in kive view, the default operation is silent mode. In this mode the mirror is locked up and the mechanical shutter is opened. When the picture is taken, an electronic shut...
