Hey Jörgen, Thanks for the prompt and informative reply. Safe to say, then, that a larger ball and bearing might be able to handle a higher load? There is a metal shop here that sells all sizes of steel balls, and any auto-body store will have wheel bearings, which come in a range of sizes, and one ...

this setup really appeals to me. Could you describe the size/make/source of the objects you're using here? Featherweight forceps and neodymium magnets are simple enough to source, but is there a particular ball bearing and metal ball combination that is ideal? I guess the size of the bearing and bal...

StackShot Step Distance Guide for Canon 6D & 65mm MP-E
Hello Photomacrographers, I recently purchased a StackShot, which I have just set up and am about to use for the first time. I'm having a bit of trouble determining the ideal step distances in Auto-Dist mode. I started by consulting the Quick Start guide which came with the unit, which simply said t...

klevin & Deanimator thanks for the replies. i may graduate to such a dedicated tabletop setup at some point, but for now, I am OK with clamping my rail and camera and positioning specimens directly onto whatever table I have in front of me (with wadded up napkins shimmed under the legs as necessary ...

How about using FIJI / ImageJ ? I DLed and installed Fiji/ImageJ2, but have found it to be a much more complicated piece of software than Piximetre, which is pretty much exclusively for making measurements. I would greatly prefer sticking with that program unless 1) ImageJ2 can read the NIS .tiffs'...

You may not need any software. Just use a microscope stage micrometer with micron size marks. Measure the entire view field captured through each objective, in microns, then calculate actual subject size based on its relative size compared to entire view field. For example, if your 40x objective ca...

NIS-Elements to Piximetre
I just shot a bunch of micrographs on a big, fancy Nikon Eclipse 80i w/ DIC. They were captured via Nikon's NIS-Elements software and saved as .tiff files. I did not have much time to take measurements, and am now wondering if there is a way to do so after the fact with Piximetre rather than with pr...

The usual way to handle this is to use a separate platform to hold the camera and subject. This can be isolated from the external vibrations. There are many examples in the forum from simple to complex. I need for this setup to be mobile enough to, ideally, fit inside my camera bag. As previously s...

I think the table is going to be prone to vibrations no matter how you fasten the camera to it, however, if you can drill and tap holes, then it would be easy to make a camera c-clamp. I'm not worried about the table vibrating any more than I'm worried about the floor vibrating. I just need the cla...

Table Clamp for Macro Rail
Hello PM Community, After being frustrated with using my tripod to focus stack specimens placed on a table, I recently purchased one of these Pedco clamps: https://www.amazon.com/UltraClamp-Assembly-Accessory-Cameras-Binoculars/dp/B003MS1RL8?ref=ast_p_ei&th=1 which I use like so with my Canon 6D, 65...

Wanted: Olmypus SPlanApo 40x Objective
I see some listed on ebay at the time of posting for $700 and up, but the completed listings show final prices far, far beneath that. Desired for use with DIC setup on BHS.
