Re: my positioning stack: X, Y, yaw, pitch
If Zerene Systems ever starts to sell these, please let me know. ;-) Contributing to the discussion of subject positioning rigs, here is a snapshot of my positioner stack: <clip> Starting from the bottom, this consists of: 1. Block of wood with Arca rails screwed to it on several faces 2. Lift-type ...

That's a very cool solution... I'm just surprised that no one even in the science industry has made anything remotely like what I am describing. Still looking... On another note, check this link out. You'll have to scroll down about half way in the message thread but Elf had a pretty cool idea. http...

Re: Automated specimen holder
Thanks, Chris, I don't figure this will happen, but just looking for a better solution - wrote to Cognisys to see if they ever considered such a device (seems logical). I have seen control via Playstation controller- 6 axes, but that looks like a research project. I would like those other axes of co...

Re: Stackshot and Zerene Stacker
With Capture One running, the Nikon reports "PC" on the top LCD, and moving the forward/back buttons the Stackshot doesn't do anything. So it is completely under the control for the laptop. I pull the plug and Stackshot takes over, then it just writes all the images to the card in the camera. I can ...

Automated specimen holder
Does anyone know of any type of automated specimen holder that would have controls such as those on a Stackshot but with control of more axes-X, Y Z and R, for example? If anyone would like to attempt to build one, could you pm me?

Re: Stackshot and Zerene Stacker
I work with Capture One for tethering to my D850, set everything (start and end points) on the Stackshot, then pull out the USB cable connecting my laptop and the D850 and press Up on the STACKSHOT (after waiting a few seconds) to start the stacking. Im on a Mac, so CMN is not an option. I have a Ni...

Re: 2nd try
Interesting. Will definitely give the sensor a good cleaning. Thanks for spotting that. Rik - thanks for your note. I had no clue what the spirals were and thought they might be dust on the sensor, but good to know otherwise. The spirals are due to dust on the sensor, stretched out into trails by mo...

Rik - thanks for your note. I had no clue what the spirals were and thought they might be dust on the sensor, but good to know otherwise. I bought a studio flash setup - Bowens Gemini 750W - https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/656924-REG/Bowens_BW_3935US_Gemini_750_Pro_Monolight.html - sort of on...

2nd try
Here's my second try with the enhanced MJKZZ clamp system and 10x objective. Composition is horrible because I don't yet have a precision specimen holder, but lighting seems decent and looks like there isn't much vibration in the rig (using a Stackshot on a gimbal on a tripod... I'll upgrade that as...

Thanks, Mike. Wish I had some of those engineering skills ;-) but my graduate degree in music composition didn't get me too far into that world ;-) (my son in law is a mechanical engineer, but with two kids under 5 and one on the way, he doesn't have much time. He builds control systems for the navy...

Thanks, dickb. It would be great if I could use the Nikon to connect to the camera - that would get the system off to a good start. I'll look into a 57-52 and give that a try. You can't use the Nikon BR2A with the MJKZZ tubes, these tubes have an unknown to me threads (I've asked if anyone knows, bu...

Thanks, Mike. The THK products look very high quality, but what do you use to motorize your stacks? Dennis, I don't use the Stackshot anymore, as I've moved to the THK rail types. This doesn't interfere with the THK rails as I have them setup with medium ARCA clamps. This allows you could mount the ...

Wouldn't;t that extra added 100mm ARCA plate make this hard to mount on a Stackshot? And coincidentally, I just found a Nikon BR-2A reversing ring that fits a 52mm thread size. Could that be used to mount onto the camera, then adapted to the next MJKZZ adapter in the chain (not sure what the size of...
