Something floral this way comes

More from the archives. These were taken with a Sigma 50mm f2.8 EX DG macro on a Pentax KP. Apart from a few obvious ones, I don't know many plant names, so you're on your own for IDs. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48432069446_4c32dfc5a5_b.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48690442818_ac...

Bumblebee (?) portrait and others; now with actual images!

Some items from my archives. All single shots, handheld, taken with a reversed 18-55 kit lens. A bumblebee. I think. https://live.staticflickr.com/1745/41709504544_c70272922a_b.jpg Playing peekaboo with a leafhopper: https://live.staticflickr.com/1749/28864311338_0b9dcb872e_b.jpg Sweat bee: https://...

The projected image on the sensor is usually just a small crop of the whole image projected by the reversed lens or the enlarger lens. The smaller the crop, the greater the drop in resolution (in lp/mm). So for example, if you are using a reversed macro lens that was designed for a 35mm sensor, and...

Enlarger lenses vs. camera lenses when reversed?

Hi all; Just wondering what sort of overall differences in performance there might be with lenses in the 24-35mm range between enlarger lenses and SLR camera lenses? I'd be using them for single shots, rather than stacks, reversed on a longer lens, teleconverter, extension tube, or on the camera bod...

Interesting, I've always wondered about these little Pentax lenses, and you tried the fish-eye! The downsized images good, the 100% crops don't hold up but thats okay. Thanks for sharing the results. Robert You're welcome! I was hoping for more, but you can't win 'em all. Next step is to try buildi...

An unexpected optic: reversed Pentax Q 03 Fish-eye

Hi all; Having reversed SLR lenses (prime and zoom), and movie camera lenses for macro shooting, I have wondered, on and off, about reversing the Pentax Q 03 Fish-eye, https://www.pentaxforums.com/lensreviews/Pentax-03-Fish-Eye.html , figuring that its short (3.2mm) focal length would produce even h...

OK, as expected the 17mm is a challenge. There may be more than one version of these, but I have the one with a rather long barrel. Without any added extension, on my Sony A7 I get over 2:1 magnification... With the 35mm I need 6mm extension to reach infinity, so it has a ffd of 24mm. Looking at my...

What sensor size do you intend to use this T/S system on? For shift you need a lens with a larger image circle than your sensor diameter. For a 35mm lens this may be a challenge, especially when focussed to infinity. It sounds a bit like what in German is called an egg-laying, wool and milk-produci...

Thanks for the information. Yes, I'm wondering what the flange distance is for infinity focus for the 50 or 35mm lenses. Longer ones aren't going to be as useful for higher magnifications on extension or stacked, and too narrow for the TS play I had in mind...

Thanks again!

MP-4 Tominon lens questions

Hi all; A few questions regarding the Tominon lenses designed for the Ploaroid MP-4 system. Hoping they are not too daft... What is the film to flange distance for these lenses? Are they be capable of focusing to infinity with the right amount of distance between lens and sensor? I know that t...

Until I do more shooting out in the field, rather than in my dining room, I'll just leave this link to these initial results from my 55-300 and 16-85 zooms that I posted on the Pentax Forums: https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/122-lens-clubs/143202-macro-any-means-necessary-club-35.html#post4650922...

Quick update, with the redrockmicro reversed I get the best looking images from my Xenoplan 28/2.0 to date, hardly any CA, not even wide open and high contrast. And that is wider than f/2.0, this lens even has an aperture stop marked beyond 2.0. Up till now this was always unusable because of the l...
