That's about 0.45mm, though, so the field you can use is about 9mm x 6mm on your sensor? Chris I was thinking about that this morning - as I am using an RLA-vertical illuminator which has a tube lens I think the field of view on the sensor is greater. If the adapter lens is 2x (As stated) and has c...

Mike I don't know what the actual chip is or does. I know it is a GaAs chip made by Nortel in the mid 90's but don't now much more than that. I actually have the wafer attached to a commemorative plaque :) I looked at and took a picture because the design, layout and look of a GaAs chip are very dif...

It doesn't fit that. The first image is true monochrome - all pixels have equal values for R and G and B. They're all greys. None of the pixels except those which are burned out, are grey in the "crop". Something else must have happened! I don't know what happened, all I did was shoot in JPEG then ...

Yes the second image is a crop from the very right edge of the first. Without zooming in at the edge of the image you (I) cannot see the CA.

I don't have a stronger objective than the 20x currently, so don't know if it will be worse at higher magnification.

Unbranded Camera Adapter on Olympus BH2

Having recently bought one I thought I would share my findings, as prior to purchasing I couldn't find much concrete information on them and saw several mixed (Mostly negative) comments about these adapters. The background is I recently resuscitated an Olympus BH2 microscope with an LED retrofit. I ...

Thats does look odd, the blue pixels appear yellow even in the centre of the array for this to be a bayer pattern. I suspect this is a light issue as I would think it highly unlikely for this CCD not to use a bayer filter pattern. The bright pixels at the edge of the array are called dark pixels. Wh...

I have toyed with the idea of owning a SEM over the years - never bit but every so often think about it. I have seen several 80's models in the $5-10k range (But shipping is going to really cost.) Here is one that sold for US$1400 https://www.govdeals.com/index.cfm?fa=main.item&itemid=320&acctid=721...

You are getting very clean results with your depot process. Modern DRAM is so dense that little can be seen in an optical microscope, the structures and films used are truly amazing in their detail. Even SEM is not able to resolve all the structures and you need to go use TEM with some pretty advanc...

Thanks Rik for the response, I will get back to you with a log file.

I think I would have preferred it to be an idiot user thing rather than one of your most bizarre problems ever seen!

Zerene Stacker on Mac Newbie Question

Hi, I have downloaded Zerene Stacker (On a MacBook Air OS X 10.12.1). I can build stacks DMAP and PMAP, but run into problems trying to use the re-touch feature. I have watched the tutorials but when I try using re-touch the 's' button does nothing so I cannot change source (Other than by selecting ...

So what are you looking for in the analyzer polarizer that will not degrade the image quality in a microscope? Are other plastic polarized films acceptable or do you need glass coated polarizers? If I look at glass coated polarizers say like these http://www.edmundoptics.com/optics/polarizers/linear...

Adhesive is only on one side (Comes with protective film on both sides) but it is very sticky. Mine cost CAD$5 delivered, so can't complain. I could't find regular linear polarizing film delivered to Canada at any sensible price.

Funny I just bought one of these and got it a couple of hours ago. It does work as polarizer clear extinction etc. and gave me good colours. But one big drawback - when you peel off the protective film there is a layer of adhesive all over the film. I will try and see if I can remove this by soaking...

The Luxdrive is a constant current driver. I don't think you can overdrive the XHP50 LED with it. The XHP has a maximum current of 3A @6V, and the Luxdrive is 2.1A (I guess you have the 2.1A version) so from the curve in the datasheet @2100mA you are going to get ~5.9V output.
