Nikon calls it "Lamp centering tool", dont know about olympus. It's plain and simple - a matte glass with some crosshairs / circles. Linked ebay item is inverted only due to not being angled - would be hard to spot anything on upright microscope... Second is exactly same, but with angled mirror for ...

No, inscribed magnification means only how it's performing on dedicated scope. In fact most manufacturers provide various focal lenghts of tube lenses. Ie: nikon have 100mm and mitutoyo have 400mm. It's very likely that 20x will outperform 40x, just because we'll use much smaller part of its image c...

With diffused only light, you can fill apertures up to 0.95
That means, it's not hard to dia light dry objectives with no optics. I myself use flat led panel with extra diffusion sheet for slide scanning.

I've paid (on previous "floods") ~130 USD for Nikon and 200 USD for Mitu. where could I find a Mitu 20X for 200$ Ebay. If you take your time, you can find good prices for anything. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/3881_Untitled1_4.jpg Recently bought Mitu 10x for 150$, and Niko...

Is there a such thing? No 3 coverslips have such tollerance that allow for ~50% drop in max intensity for this objective. Also i dont fancy swapping coverslips for every objective. But i suspect it could be possible to "fix" this objective. It might be a matter of spacer, need to figure out how to o...

I have 1501-9398. When compared to Mitutoyo 20x/0.42, mitu is so much better in every aspect. Nikon does have huge image circle, but quality image circle barely fills APS-C sensor while mitu can be pushed down on even on FF. Mitu is better on uncovered subject, obviously. When they first appeared (N...

Looks like diffraction blur to me. What aperture were you shooting at? Distance between lenses is arguable. If you use both lenses focused on infinity, theoretically you could place them infinitely apart. Here is calc that can help you estimate: https://www.edmundoptics.com/resources/tech-tools/infi...

This means that objective will work with UW eyepieces with field diameter = 25
That is => 25mm / objective magnification = field of view

Suprizingly, like many others, Schneider enlarging lenses are optimized for infinity, despite being enlarging. Also effective aperture is improved quite a bit.
