Re: When DMAP and stereos shine!
Lovely! Yep, convex geometry with fine detail everywhere, a perfect subject for depth map methods. As always, I agree that the stereo adds a lot to my perception of the shape. Not nearly as much as in more ambiguous cases, though. In this case, I think I understand the geometry almost as well from ...

When DMAP and stereos shine! New pics added.
I bought a diamond scribe a few years ago and took some shots of the tip as soon as it arrived. It was smooth, conical and uninteresting! I wasn't too hot at lighting shiny stuff back then so the metal surfaces came out pretty ugly too. In short, the outcome was dead boring and I began to doubt the ...

Any experiences with the Nisi 77mm close-up filter?
I've been waiting years for a "Minolta AF 200mm f4.0 Tele Macro APO G Lens" to turn up at a reasonable price, and nothing happened yet. I've had some success doing low-mag field macro with long lenses and cropping, but I'd like a true macro option with more working distance really. Hence the wait. B...

A favourite local spot. Very Local.
A few years of managed neglect in one corner of my small urban garden yielded this. I spend a lot of time here. It's lovely. Peaceful. I suspect most all of you will naturally "grasp" the attraction of a mundane little hiding spot like this - so no more words needed... :D fave garden spot pmn.jpg

...and in my haste to hit the "deadline", I forgot the most important thing. A big "thank you" to Rik and the admins, and to everyone who contributes to this site. You're a huge part of what makes the journey so enjoyable!

Anniversary: 7 years since joining PM.net
With a bit of luck, this post has appeared exactly 7 years, to the minute, since I joined this forum. It's when my journey into extreme macro began in earnest and a significant anniversary given its importance to "my recreational time" - also known as "my life" since retiring :D I had already been d...

I think that's the first time I've seen a Yucca flower. Certainly the first time I've seen one "knowingly". Ta.

...Out of interest, how are you diffusing the goosenecks? I've just started experimenting with them but not found anything I happy with - mostly about stability but also concerned about absorption fire risk from with a higher output source. Sorry for the delayed reply. Looks like my notifications g...

Re: Chemical Mixtures Polarised Light
Stunning set! I've been watching quite a "bloom" of polarisation pics online over the past year. These are up with the best. I haven't dabbled in that time, too much other tinkering on the go. But you've possibly instigated a bit of an itch now

Re: Peony
I've always thought dead-ish peonies should make a good pic, but got nothing outstanding to date. I really like the last one here. Looks a bit like it's constrained in an out-of-view box, which prompted a few new ideas. Thanks.

Re: test weevil :-)
I reduce power by nesting beakers of water inside each other, like russian dolls, with a few fragments of silicon rubber mat dropped in the bottom of each. Very gentle by 3 beakers deep, doesn't even shred wings (2 deep can).

Nice test! The top part of the leg is beautifully rendered. Foot needs a quick whizz in the ultrasonic though
