This has been an interesting test. I'll probably clean this up and post separately to make it easier to find later, but since folks are already watching this thread I thought I'd post here for continuity now. --Rik It has been most instructive. When you posted the PMax series I was about to reply a...

Look at it from a different angle - why did they start selling an extended rail ? Hmmm, maybe because a lot of customers felt limited by the standard length ? Yes, presumably a lot of their customers are using it more for 'close up' than for macro photography. With a large step size (cm or mm rathe...

How did you plan to mount the RZ lenses onto the bellows? I can't find any Novoflex adapter for it. If you were to construct your own that would leave you with 105mm (RZ flange distance) - 40mm (minimum bellows distance) - 13mm (CANA-AF) = 52mm for an adapter minus 44mm EOS register distance = 8mm ...

It does. I see other more recent prices, like this one from 2009 at 59 eur second hand. I have updated the main article.

We need to be careful what "front" means. Rørslett writes "This lens can give an excellent macro setup, when a 6T close-up lens is added and the lens then is reversed using the BR-2/2A and BR-5 adapters." In the final configuration, the close-up lens sits between the main lens and the camera, so it...

In a quick test varying exposure times to match the histograms, my rig says that a full f-stop is too much, 1/3 of an f-stop is not enough, and 2/3 of an f-stop is just about dead on. I'm not delighted by the remaining disagreement of about 1/4 f-stop (between 2/3 and 0.94), but it's close enough t...

Re: Salivating

I am intrigued by the coils on the third assembly. Is this stabilization, focus or iris stuff? Two of them at right angles.... Those look to me like analog "voice coils" to drive the stabilization. Yes, those correspond to the group on the optical diagram marked "VR" which is Nikon-speak for "Vibra...

The only lenses that I have to the best of my knowledge that I could use as a tube lens would be either my Leica 180mm f3.4 Apo Telyt lens or my Leica 70-210 f4.0 Vario Elmar lens. Since the 180/3.4 is optimised for use at infinity (and is of excellent quality) , it would probably work very well as...

I don't know about the value of the lens but that is a very high worldwide mailing charge. I am seeing US $54.99 for the item plus US $59.72 for postage (and multiple stern warnings tha tthey use UPS only) to which should be added 20% of the total (item plus shipping) sales tax on import plus UPS '...

When I say optimized sensors I mean with better designed pixels; pixels we se today in our cameras do not use the whole pixel area to gather light http://digitalcontentproducer.com/hdhdv/depth/Photodiode1.jpg As long as pixel design does not change the number of pixels will not matter because there...

By the way the Nikon D800 and D800E were officially announced today. They have the same sensor but the 'E' has no anti-aliasing filter.

It might be interesting to discuss the effect of that, in the current thread.

Yes you are right, my bad. Its the same sensor pitch as the D7000, but extended over a full frame sensor size. I have edited my earlier post

Sample images from the camera show a resolution of 7360 x 4912.
