Re: How to best photograph parasitoid wasp collection for ID
Thanks Pau, in fact I have been living in the Azores for 2 years now, but first came here for a project in 2012. I like it here, a bit calm sometimes. Small islands in the middle of the atlantic you know :D @Planapo the problem is that these are going to be the morpho species and samples may need to...

Re: How to best photograph parasitoid wasp collection for ID
Thanks I run some tests placing the sample in propilenglicol with a coverslip on top to keep the subject from moving, as long as the coverslip is fully submerged there are not unwanted reflections, I am using difused reflected light. Some of this samples will need to go later on for DNA testing and ...

How to best photograph parasitoid wasp collection for ID
Hi, I have to photograph the parasitoid wasp collection for the University of Azores, right now they are separated by families plus a spieces ID number. Families range from medium sized Braconidae, Ichneumonidae to small ones like Figitidae and Eulophidae (down to 1mm aprox). All this samples are st...

Re: New olympus 90mm 2x macro
I just got an Olympus EM1 mkIII and a 90/3.5 macro, the ability of stacking with flash made me get one. Quite promissing for field work. One thing I do not understand about this lens design is how the f number changes with magnification, this is from the manual: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/5...

Re: which 20x microscope optics to choose ?
ok thanks a lot. A Have a question : with my 20xCF Plan 0.46 EPI WD 3.1- infinite ∞/0 It must be mounted on what length of lense tube? Because I try to stack the Willemite, it is difficult but just doable. (As a test I take the length of 125mm sensor to DCR250) and how to know these lengths when th...

Re: From 16MB to 40MB in APS-C
Switching from and 16mpx NEX-5N to a 24mpx A5100 did not feel much of a difference, and missed some things like flash shoe mount. I ended up selling it. I keep using the NEX5N for collection photography and the Sony A7 for more detailed/artistic work but I still made 90x60cm prints with the NEX5N wh...

Re: Advice needed in recovering colour from dry insects and making it last
The leds are around 10cm/4" away fom subject, the diffuser are way closer (1cm/1/2" or so). The head is less than a mm wide, it is difficult for it to hold humidity for a 300+ image stack. Just running a test stacking the eyes first and then running the whole stack. I will see what comes from it

Re: Advice needed in recovering colour from dry insects and making it last
This crop of a partial stack shows the problem; diluted Decon 90 restores the eye colour back to black, but it will not hold enough to end the stack. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51602147748_085fbe067b_z.jpg I do not want the insect to be wet during the stack, normally this is not necessary b...

Advice needed in recovering colour from dry insects and making it last
Hi, I an working in a project that involves taking pictures of some small beetles. The samples I have been given have been in alcohol for a long time (years). I am having trouble with a Trechus sp. (3mm long) I can get back the eye's colour with decon90, but it does not hold enough to finish the sta...
