Re: Stink Bug ( Darkling Beetle )

So, I assume nature has provided them with transportation in the form of a beetle, or perhaps they are feeding on microscopic organisms on the beetle. The mites get fed and the beetle gets cleaned . Very interesting, thank you for your input........Bill

Stink Bug ( Darkling Beetle )

This is a follow up to Rik Littlefields excellent posting on Feb 28, regarding the Darkling Beetle. I discoverd this one under a rotting log while searching 2021-03-07-16-47-30-(B,Radius8,Smoothing4)-12.jpg for jumping spiders. I believe it is what we use to call a stink beetle. When disturbed, they...

Re: Another darkling beetle, Eusattus muricatus

Very interesting Rik. I came across a similar beetle a few days ago and have taken a number of photos that I hope to post tomorrow. When I was a boy living in the mountains near Yosemite, these were known as stink beetles. When disturbed, they would lift up their hind end and emit an odor. They were...

Trouble getting into site.

For some reason I'm having trouble getting into this site. Everytime I type in www.photomacrography or variation there of in the search box, it directs me to Johan J Ingles-Le Nobel site "Extreme Macro". Great site and I love his articles, but not what I'm looking for when I want to get to this foru...

Stink Bug.

Came across this guy ( or girl ) while hunting for jumping spiders. After some online research, I've come to the conclusion that it's a Brown Marmorated Stink Bug, which is invasive here in California as well as other states throughout the U.S. It is especially 2021-01-24-17-35-19-(B,Radius8,Smoothi...

Re: Tiny junkman

Nice photos Mark. Reminds me of the Caddis Fly larva I use to use when trout fishing. They would encrust themselves with sand and bits of pine needle. Inside was the little grub that trout loved.

Re: Black Widow

Charming creatures aren't they! I understand their venon is 15 times stronger than a rattle snake. Luckily they don't inject that much when they bite. Very few humans die from them.

Black Widow

Just when I thought photographing insects was over for the season, I discovered this little beauty hiding in the corner of my backyard fence. At first I considered killing here for photographic purpose's, then decided to build a small habitat out of a 3x3 inch plastic cube. This way I'm able photogr...

Re: My daughter's hair

Beautiful shot Robert. I especially like the small beam of light coming from above on the left side. Was that intentional or just the way it worked out. I've tried getting similar results by drilling a small hole in a ping pong ball attached to my Jansco light, but without much success. Again, beaut...

Re: Rare Two Headed California Root Beetle

This poor creature had already passed to the great beyond, so I'm not sure what sound it would make. I know that a June Bug makes a curious sound when handled. A kind of squeaking noise I believe made with their antennae.
