Re: New olympus 90mm 2x macro
PS - See also what DPReview has to say about the missing lens collar: https://www.dpreview.com/news/0100604000/om-digital-solutions-releases-om-system-m-zuiko-digital-ed-90mm-f3-5-macro-is-pro Yes, this possible collar compatibility is almost certainly the "secret thing" Peter Forsgård refers to at...

Re: Stackshot gone south?
Sounds similar to the problems I had a while back. In my case one of the pins connecting the rail to the controller was bent and I was able to fix the erratic behaviour by carefully bending it back into alignment. You say you've checked the cables but I just wanted to mention this to make sure you'v...

Olympus HR-mode + remote triggering
Hi folks! Sorry if the following issue has been covered. Background: In June 2017 I got my first M43 Camera – the Olympus E-M1mkII. It's been a pleasant experience overall but the automatic focus bracketing in particular has impressed me. During the off season here in Sweden I've been hooking my E-M...

I agree with Johan to a large degree! And I'd like to add a couple of points: 1) For studio work the Laowa beats my (!) MPE across the 2.5–5X range. But perhaps my copy of the MPE has taken one too many beating or it was simply not up to par to begin with (?!). 2) The range of the MPE makes it far s...

Once again, the question of MPE sharpness comes up, in that some owners report that f/2.8 is sharper than f/4 at 5x, and others say it's not Yes, I was actually surprised by the lacking sharpness of the MPE @ f/2.8 and 5X. I suppose a simple answer would be that it's a question of sample variation....

I just published some initial impressions of this lens having used it for the past week. It's written in Swedish but the bot-translated version linked at the top of the article is quite comprehensible. http://makrofokus.se/blogg/2018/2/7/forsta-intryck-laowa-2528.html I've included a quick shootout ...

Local stacking
Hi everyone! I wish I could find time for more regular posts here. Anyway, I wanted to share a stacking technique I regularly find reason to employ in my field work. It's perhaps not the most convenient method but nevertheless it can sometimes be a very powerful last resort to save an otherwise "imp...

If the lens extends physically when you focus, it's likely to have minimal FL shortening, though there may still be some adjustment going on in the name of "close focus control" I think this is an oversimplification. For instance, I'm not aware of a lens in the 100mm range capable of achieving 1:1 ...

Wow, thanks Conny – and all others! I was just about to shamelessly plug the book myself and I notice you've already done it :). Seriously, I really appreciate the kind words! It's been fun working on the book I hope there will be translated versions as well. I just made this post about the book on ...

Today Kipon announced they are also going to make an automatic EF-NEX adapter. And while they are at it they're doing one for MFT as well! http://photorumors.com/2012/07/25/kipon-announced-electronic-adapters-for-using-canon-lenses-on-mirrorless-cameras/#more-28584 http://photorumors.com/wp-content/...

Did you have the opportunity to try any other lens than the 65 MP-E? I tried it for five minutes on vertical bellows-setup with a Mitutoyo 5X + tube lens and it worked as expected (no obvious problems). I am curious if the Nex bodies will provide a flash signal without resorting to the mechanical f...

Thanks Oskar! No vibration sensitivity was not on my list of concerns. On the contrary – given the lack of a mirror and the presence of EFCS there is no source of vibrations left to worry about. :) NEX 3 doesn't have EFCS? The Nex permits moving around in magnified liveview mode, I would assume this...

I still think that mirrorless cameras are few generation away of being fully usable; specially because of the poor AF and poor MF with focus by wire AF, now who actually needs that gimmick? :) Regarding focus by wire: I would have been inclined to agree with you but since using Canon's 40/2.8 STM f...
