Re: Debunking the high NA / coverslip correction myth
I also have the Nikon 20X 0.75 but I haven't really used it much yet. I recently tried putting on a big square cover glass (all I have) with the Canon 70-200 f2.8 as tube lens (200mm and focus at eternity mark, beyond gave a little bit worse result) adn photographed a paper with a barcode. Using cov...

Re: No sharpness when using mitutoyo 10x (also halo, low contrast)
If both your regular 10X and the 10X HR have the same issue, both could be damaged but there is a real chance that something else is not right. Higher magnifications are much more sensitive to vibrations if you use continuous light, are you using that or flashes? I have been struggling with vibratio...

Re: Loss of Robert OToole
I hadn't seen this terrible news until now and it hit me so hard. I've read about his health issues but thought or he'd pulled through that. His many tests of lenses and help in forums and pm's have been invaluable to me.

Re: Mitutoyo 10x 0.42 M Plan APO HR lens adventure
I bought a used Mitutoyo 5X HR in 2022 that had been taken apart previously for cleaning. It was as sharp as it should be in the centre but outside the centre it was quite bad. I got refunded most of what I payed and kept it, but in hindsight I don't know if that was a good idea, I might as well hav...

Re: Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 vs. Componon 4/28 Tested at 3,1x
I have not done it myself, but I have read of others that had, f.x Robert. The results were, as I remember it, a dissapointment; it is not a good lens for stacking. I use mine with a few empty tubes for a magnification of about 2.1X and it works great as that. It is sensitive to stray light and refl...

Re: Mitutoyo M Plan Apo HR 5x
Yes, I got it and had it delivered a few days ago. Unfortunately it was a dud. It appears to have had fungus inside and it had been taken apart to clean that. There are dustparticles on many levels (lens packages) inside it and some smear on several lenses. I tested it anyway of course, and while th...

Re: Thorlabs SM2 Parts Available From China
Don't worry, your site IS very helpful and you do have photos with setups to explain how things work. But photos of more setups is always welcomed and especially which sm2 tubes are needed. I have looked at US ebay listings, but since I'm in EU the total price will be worse. Apart from shipping we a...

Re: Thorlabs SM2 Parts Available From China
Thanks, I've looked through your site of course, but I think it is not until you actually used the setups that you find out what you need. The sm2 is system is a bit expensive so I thought I'd ask people with experience what you really need. Like which and how many tubes are needed for a setup? Just...

Re: Thorlabs SM2 Parts Available From China
I really need to finally make my build with sm2 tubes, but I am having a hard time estimating what I need. The adapters I think I get but what SM2 tubes do I need? Anyone with experience that has some input? I use a full format Canon eos 5dsr and have these tube lenses: Scitex LFOV 108 mm/f5.6 - RAF...

Thanks for a really nice review of a really interesting lens. Your ability to sniff out these marvellous lenses at good prices is really remarkable. Re: Lens Tests Coming Soon
About the Sigma art 70mm, I have tried that with extension rings to get some higher magnification, but he result is not very good. The image will still be very sharp in the middle, but a large part of the image (in full format) will be severly blurry.

Re: Canon DSLR discounts
When I finally got to upgrade our equipment at work a few years ago, I made sure we bought a 5dsr because of the high resolution, cancelling aa filter and since we already had Canon lenses, so I've been using it for a few years. 5ds and 5dsr have held their price for a very long time but has been on...

As far as I know, just using it as a still camera will not overheat it.
