Thank you Phil.

The picture is uncropped, so this one was extremely close to me. It hovered quite steady for a few seconds though.

Emerald in flight

A male Brilliant Emerald (Somatochlora metallica) in flight just in front of my 180/3.5 Sigma lens on Canon 5D. I found a nice pond just a few kilometers south of my new home, and here this species is quite abundant. At my regular huge bog site a few kilometers away, I only see this species a few ti...

great species...

Hi Christian This is one of my favorite species of True Bugs, but I think I've only seen the image and a later stage of the nymph. It's quite interesting to compare the two pictures, one stacked the other a single exposure. The details in the stacked image is very good, and I like the rendering of t...

Hi Paul, welcome.
That's an excellent image, with good focus and detail.
I have no idea what species it is, but surely it's from the Perchers family (family: Libellulidae).

Nah, I enjoy every aspect of the lifes of dragonflies, and really get ecited with my camera when dragonflies eat or gets eaten. Here a page by a friend of mine, who has a photo of a Robberfly eating a dragonfly. The dragonfly is an Eastern Pondhawk and is itself known to take rather large prey, some...

Nice pictures.
You've got the damselfly species right, but the third picture is a young male and not a female Ichnura elegans.

Just visited the site after months of absence, and this stunning picture hits my screen on the front-page. Nearly put me off posting my own "silly" images.

Truly a masterpiece.
And I love Tiger Beetles.

Robberfly eating Damselfly

Guessed I should pop by and show an image of mine from a trip to Portugal. I was at the summercamp following the 1st European Congress on Odonatology (Dragonflies). I had a wonderful time with professional and armature odonatologist from more than 25 European contries. http://farm5.static.flickr.com...

Excellent picture and situation.

Isn't this a nymph of a true bug ? I have actually a few photos similar to this with big prey, although this one surely beats mine in size.
