honestzed, for starters you should ignore the fact that you're shooting closeup / macro, and focus attention on learning to use the exposure controls of your camera. Just lift your levels, that helps a lot. For the rest your light meter is fooled by the white subject so your gamma is a bit off I'm sorry, I am a completely new amateur at all this. For years I have used Topaz Remask for such tasks. It has no been superseded by Topaz Mask AI. I have not tried the new version, as I have never felt the need to change.
