Re: Mity 20x NUV usability?

I know nothing of objective lenses other then what I picked up in this forum, but from what I remember used Mity's are often spotty, so buying a used UV one for 1000USD when the "proper" version cost 2000 new sounds risky. strange thing when looking up the prices: edmund sells the UV version for 650...

Re: 100-125mm TL for Mitutoyo to cover FF sensor?

Please correct me if I am wrong: MF = 60mm, FF=35mm, ratio = 35/60 = 0.58 Not totally sure if you mean image circle by these numbers, but if so your calculations are indeed off. It depends which „medium format“, but I seem to remember that Nathan uses a fuji gfx, that would be an image circle off 5...

Re: Does anyone have the Laowa 100mm x2 macro lens?

Very interesting. Nice to see some „real world“ images.
I would have expected the differences in bokeh to be bigger, but on the other hand the difference in color is bigger then what I thought.

Re: Fast Stacking and Continuous vs Flash Lighting

you could try to put a 2-4" diameter aluminium tube in front of the COB to guide and concentrate the light.
still a bit of wasted light, but probably quite a bit brighter in the center and already diffused a bit

Re: Coming Soon to Closeuphotography.com June Updates

Also when testing the Sigma 105mm, it would be useful to compare the Sigma 70mm Art lens. When the 105 was launched, Sigma's president claimed that its image quality equaled that of the 70mm. He didn't say it was better. So it would be interesting to compare the two. Hmm, my memory is not what it u...

Re: Fast Stacking and Continuous vs Flash Lighting

it would mainly depend on your desired speed and thus shutter speed to avoid motion blur, but then also on NA, ISO and distance and diffusion on the lamp. short story: it would be possible to calculate this, but with all the factors involved you'll likely much better off just to try it. I'd imagine ...

Re: The eBay Experience !

To me that doesn‘t really sound like a scammer, but rather a crazy person who thinks he‘s been treated unfair.

Personally I‘d probably just send him the lens back and hope he calms down - usually not worth the trouble in these cases.

Re: Looking for a new computer

Problem is that GPU are selling at insane prices atm, so any processing which relies on GPU is difficult. Personally I feel that for normal computing Apple hit a home run with their M1 ARM based chip, and I imagine that windows systems will soon try to follow to remain competitive. We‘ve edited a sp...

Re: Need help on putting a Microscope Objective on a zoom lens

Support RafCamera, they deserve our business and BTW before someone asks I pay full retail and do not make one cent from any RafCamera sales. I just want to support someone that supports photomacrographers the way he does! I fully agree. I bought many adapters from Rafcamera, always great fit, and ...

Re: Does anyone have the Laowa 100mm x2 macro lens?

On my rudimentary tests the Minolta 5400 was loosing sharpnes on FF corners. The benchmark lenses would be the printing nikkors 1x and 2x, but the laowa being a traditional macro lens, it might make more sense to compare it to something similar. Most of those will stop at 1:1 though where there are ...

Re: Qioptiq d.fine HR 2.4/128 3.33x Lens Test is Online

Incredibly detailed test, thanks for the full write up. Concerning cover glass: at this focal length and magnification there is about 50cm of extension, which means the rays hit the sensor nearly at a right angle, so maybe this causes fewer problems. (I remember vaguely that using leica M lenses on ...

Re: The eBay Experience !

I basically stopped selling internationally, too much hassle.
Been pretty lucky on national sales the last years, hardly ever had a complaint and on the rare occasion it was quickly resolved.
