Re: Laowa Aurogon Super-Micro lens test and comparison (versus Mitutoyo etc.)
My apologies to Rik, Pau and Chris but after Laowa informed me that they had updated their design, I returned this set as it unfortunately didn't really make sense for me to spend more time with an obsolete lens kit. Sorry all. @Chris - the tubes are long and narrow with no access from the objective...

Re: Laowa Aurogon Super-Micro lens test and comparison (versus Mitutoyo etc.)
Some further information from Laowa on the issue of stray light: "Since the set you are having is the very first branch of the demo set, the internal reflection issue has been solved with baffling for all the new set and products. I am sorry that the factory did not update us about this. I understan...

Re: Laowa Aurogon Super-Micro lens test and comparison (versus Mitutoyo etc.)
Oh, that's a large caveat. Chromatic aberrations are an important source of unsharpness in real life, but these are not going to be revealed by tests using only a singe color. I would strongly recommend using a full-color testing workflow if the goal is to judge sharpness in typical full-color appl...

Re: Laowa Aurogon Super-Micro lens test and comparison (versus Mitutoyo etc.)
2. Best practice is to avoid stacking in tests with flat resolution charts. The main reason is that the stacking process may do sub-pixel shifting of the images in order to align various frames, and the associated interpolation can mess with the contrast of pixel level detail. The canonical example...

Re: Laowa Aurogon Super-Micro lens test and comparison (versus Mitutoyo etc.)
One question: at this comparison "SunsetWing_NA_Comparison.jpg" the Laowa-0.5 pictures are softer than the Laowa-0.3. Shouldn't that be the other way round? Ideally this should be true - however the Aurogon does not handle stray light well at its maximum NA with the lower tubes (10-20x) and the sta...

Re: Laowa Aurogon Super-Micro lens test and comparison (versus Mitutoyo etc.)
Hi All, I am currently in the process of test driving this lens set - so please allow me to add my perspective. Below is a link to a preliminary series of test images that include figures comparing resolution test targets vs. Mitutoyo Plan APOs, image comparisons of multiple subjects with variations...

Re: Laowa Aurogon 10x-50x
It's only 0.5NA at 50x. There are 4 different tube lenses, they give mag/na ratios of: 10x/0.3 (WD = 18.8mm) 20x/0.4 (WD = 10.3mm) 35x/0.45 (WD = 6.85mm) 50x/0.5 (WD = 5.56mm) If the APO corrections hold up and they are true Plan optics for FF cameras then these might be a great option vs. Mitutoyo....

Re: Experience with Mitutoyo 50x/0.75 HR?
Thank you Chris and Scarodactyl for your quick replies. I was silently hoping that the differences would be minor - but the images Chris shared were quite impressive. I hope you are OK with me sharing, Chris - but I assembled a quick figure showing a cropped region from each example image at 100% (t...

Experience with Mitutoyo 50x/0.75 HR?
Hi All, I'm curious if others have tried this objective - it has a lot of great features, especially the working distance-to-NA ratio. I've not found another objective that has >4mm working distance with an NA above 0.7 with Plan APO level corrections. I'm currently using a 60x/0.7 ELWD BD M-Plan th...

I guess I use Zerene so frequently that DMAP = depth map to me!
But you are correct, the depth map function equivalent in HF would be Method B.

I bought one from Lightglass as well - was factory sealed and works great! They were very responsive.

Re: Barlow VS Eyepiece
Apologies everyone - I totally misconstrued the original question. For whatever reason I did not equate the term 'Barlow' lens with a front lens on a stereo.

Re: Barlow VS Eyepiece
A 2x barlowe/quxiliary lens increases resolution (and decreases working distance) allpwing mpre details to be made out. In contrast a higher power eyepiece increases magnification without any increase in resolution. A Barlow lens most certainly does not increase the resolution of a microscope. Reso...

Re: Sunset moth scales @29X
That is a very brave (and cool) modification!
I have the non-BD version of this lens and it is almost impossible to get diffused reflected light to the sample unless it is perfectly flat. I have mostly given up on this lens in favor of a Nikon 60x/0.7 finite objective because of this.
