Re: Some more low data content images

How you do that is like voodoo to me, but still these are gorgeous. Thanks Mark. :) The water drop picture inspires me to mention that it would be really cool to have a picture like that, with some tiny plankton critters swimming in the water drop. Oh yes, that would be wonderful. (No idea how one ...

Re: Some more low data content images

I don't think you need to justify any of your techniques--the images speak for themselves. I've enjoyed every one of these sets quite a bit. Yes, these are beautiful images! The smooth transition from in-focus to out-of-focus is also refreshing after looking at lots of stacked images :) =D> Very ni...

Some more low data content images

I use very small apertures to increase the depth of field I can get from single-capture (i.e. not focus stacked) images. These very small apertures cause a great deal of diffraction softening. In this post Rik showed that the technique I use has reached beyond the limit of accurately capturing fine ...

Very nice pictures with saturated colors and lots of texture.

Troels
Thanks Troels. I try to get the hues about right by calibrating the white balance of my diffusers. I generally don't touch the Saturation or Vibrance sliders, so no particular enhancement there.

Re: Testing a new (flawed) diffuser

I have other examples with this latest setup where the highlights on those particular beetles are still going yellow at some angles, which I don't like at all. It is complicated though, and not simply a matter of one or more of the channels clipping because that yellowing can occur even when Raw Di...

Re: Testing a new (flawed) diffuser

I am hard pressed to see a flaw. Thanks for the feedback Mark. Substantive image-specific observations are always useful (and are fairly rare). The problem I was encountering was veiling glare. Here is an example. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51298562864_93f3d0b991_b.jpg 1935 1 Veiling glare...

Testing a new (flawed) diffuser

These are rescue shots from a session yesterday where I was testing a new diffuser setup which proved to have a serious flaw which ruined many of the images. I'm hoping an adjustment I made last night will cure the flaw because apart from the flaw the setup seemed to work quite well. These were capt...

Re: Reflector bowl test shots

I am preparing some pictures of what I've got going on right now. Since we are into sharing info on this, here is the setup I'm testing at the moment. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51266822056_c84d370e76_b.jpg 1923 Illustration 2 by gardenersassistant , on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com...

Facebook groups often ask questions, including odd questions, just to see if you are serious / not a troll / not a robot (maybe).
Ah, OK. That might explain it.

Re: Reflector bowl test shots

My reflector right now is a triangular wedge shaped cardboard form, covered in HVAC tape. This is suspended just in front of the flash by struts. This is done a bit like how a secondary mirror is suspended inside a reflector telescope by spider vanes. I am getting the best results I've ever had, bu...

Refllector bowl for test shots

Admin CR note: This thread continues from the Reflector Bowl Test Shots images thread which is HERE Very nice! Thank you. :) By coincidence I've been tinkering with a diffuser that relies more on reflection than diffusion as well. The basic idea is to mount a reflector thingy directly in front of th...

Re: Reflector bowl test shots

Some are better than others. The ones I appreciate less are those where the light is directionless and there are no shadows to add to the depth of the photo. I would expect better of a non-uniform reflector. Thanks for your feedback. Looking through your posting history I see that you are far more ...
