Re: Small backlit stage
Has anyone seen a small backlit stage? Round is preferable, perhaps 100mm diameter. Edited to add: I picked up a 6.5" round LED light from Amazon to try it out. Out of interest, will you be using the backlight to help with background removal for coin photography? If so, I have a shared interest in ...

Re: Loss of Robert OToole
I've been a bit busy lately with other things so haven't checked in for awhile here, what a shock to see this news. Like many others, I spent countless hours on his website pouring over his lens tests. He gave so much back to the community and surely inspired countless people to dive further into th...

Re: CNC Motion Control for Macro Videography
Very interesting, thanks for sharing! Neat idea about using Klipper to control everything, no need to reinvent the wheel. I wasn't aware of those 5-phase 0.36 degree stepper motors either, I would be more tempted if they could be run from a conventional Trinamic driver like the TMC5160 but as it is ...

Re: What are current recommendations for 3D from depth map?
Cam - The coin reconstruction is very impressive! How many stacked photos did it require? Cheers - David Thanks David! I did one pass of 36 photo stacks (one stack every 10 degrees) then rotated the coin at the point where it was being held, and did another pass of 18 photo stacks (one stack every ...

Re: What are current recommendations for 3D from depth map?
There used to be a fairly simple method in Photoshop for converting image + depth map into a 3D model. This was documented by Jörgen Hellberg at https://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33926 . Unfortunately, Photoshop will no longer do this job. (More info at https://helpx.adobe.com/...

3D Printed Dual Flash Adapter for Godox TT350
I previously posted some designs for various 3D printed flash accessories in an old thread here: http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43843 One design I kept working on over the past 2 years but never "finished" so I never got around to posting the files for anyone else to use. I th...

Re: Some 3D printed accessories for the Godox TT350 flash
It's not clear to me what you're trying to accomplish. If your only intent is to visualize and design objects and program your new 3D printer to fabricate them, then you're doing a great job. The comments of other posters acknowledge that. If, on the other hand, you're trying to produce functional ...

Re: Some 3D printed accessories for the Godox TT350 flash
Been awhile since I've updated this topic with any 3D printed creations. Thought I'd add this quick one I did yesterday for fun. I noticed my Samsung S21 Ultra camera worked decently well when paired with the Raynox DCR-250 (and M-150) in the 3x telephoto mode. So I printed a quick adapter plate and...

Re: Axial Lights II (Ghostbuster?)
There is a Chinese ebay seller bohr-optics selling plate BS and other interesting optics for low prices, no idea about their quality, BTW https://www.ebay.com/itm/224868117408?hash=item345b2f2ba0:g:EvgAAOSw6nZiHyhw&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4N3IsZnBncn2SmK42jTwV%2B6LgQs6LXRB0debblxrhWbgs8ArZ17itcCRiwub1...

Re: Axial Lights II (Ghostbuster?)
yes, actually, cheap UV filters work better, those with any kind of coating either have some kind of colour cast or aberration. I did try a piece of glass, 1.0mm thick, supposedly to be K9 optical grade, it is cheaper than half-mirror, and works well, too, just less light. The one attached to the l...

Re: Axial Lights II (Ghostbuster?)
Please remind me what lighting method is the non-axial? It's a custom 3D printed "ring flash" for my Godox TT350. I've shared some earlier designs here but since then I've made a few changes, like making the flash adapter be able to swivel 360 degrees independent of the filter thread and I also hav...

Re: Axial Lights II (Ghostbuster?)
Here's the stack test I did today. First photo is shot axially with the 80x80x1.1mm beamsplitter. Second photo is non-axial, using my custom "ring flash" adapter. You can click on these photos to see high resolution versions. In the comparisons below those, the one on the left is axial and the one o...

Re: Axial Lights II (Ghostbuster?)
Well it's that time of the year again when I decide to revisit axial lighting for no good reason. I've been trying some various setups the past few weeks, partly influenced by this thread that I forgot to follow up on earlier in 2022. Reading through it again, as well as some of the old threads Rik...

Re: How to get bright white backgrounds?
( The suggestion about using collimated rear illumination is likely the best solution. ) It may also be possible to use chromakey to enable your masks to be selected more reliably. You could distinguish between the chromakey background and white-ish specular highlights from the coins edges. Also th...

Re: Axial Lights II (Ghostbuster?)
in my case with the slanted glass the light would be travelling through the same amount of glass regardless of where it hits along its surface - assuming the light is hitting it a 45 degree angle relative to the surface. ... I'm likely missing something obvious as I have a long way to go before bei...
