Re: Loss of Robert OToole
I don't know what to say. I was just talking with him in emails the other week, he found some amazing information for me and we were setting up a test of the lasertec 5x for the future. His lens tests and site were a big part of what got me excited about photomacro, trying different lenses and confi...

Havent read it all yet but these nikon CF infinity objectives were paired with eyepieces with a field number up to 26.5mm so aps-c is barely out of their nominal spec. Even though the cfi60 line has taken over as Nikon's main system some of these 45mm infinity cf objectives are actually still made f...

Re: Hoffman Modulation Contrast (HMC) for Leitz Orthoplan?
Hmc is OK. I have a Zeiss inverted that has the condenser and a few objectives though some of the condenser filters are a bit delaminated. I like DIC a lot better.

Did the other two end up poorly packed as well? It was so odd since what I got from him was packed fine, though they were much smaller lenses.

Huh. Did the body survive intact? I would think the objectives would be the main risk there. Nice piece of kit if it's working.

That seems like very strong CA on the Laowa which surprises me given other reviews. I keep meaning to get one, if I do it will be interesting to see how they compare.

Re: Leica M series 50 mm thread?
Someobe mentioned in an earlier thread that it was m50x1ph3, ie 1mm thread with 3 starts. I was not aware of this but it could be, they did that trick on the z series.

Re: Lens with fungus and effect on image quality
If you want to be desperate you'd disassemble the lens and manually clean the element, hoping it isn't the kind of mold that etches glass. If it's between the elements you can always try to separate them and reglue with optical cement. Will it be any good after doing that? Maybe?? But if you soak it...

Re: Advice Needed
It is my old Olympus STM measuring microscope--there was some unfortunate miscommunication on which features were essential and how it would be used (to be fair mitutoyos are a bit of an unusual choice to use primarily for looking at slides). It's a nice setup for oblique epi illumination, we didn't...

Re: Nikon Eclipse DIC PF and PA objective prism sliders
I have found the system to be surprisingly forgiving, with good results even on plan achromats. I also added an olympus w25xhr prism to the condenser (with a little modification) and it works well with the system, similar to the H prism.
