Re: Female Jumping Spider (on Chrysocolla-encrusted Mixite)

Publicly - since I'd only done so in a PM - thanks for coming back and sharing in detail and with photos. Much appreciated. =D> ... Here's a slightly altered version of a recent Facebore post I did. Should answer the question. If you have any followups, might be worth starting a new thread in techni...

Re: Female Jumping Spider (on Chrysocolla-encrusted Mixite)

Lovely image; looks like the same as I found and snapped in my kitchen at the weekend. I popped it in a handy petridish (every kitchen should have some) and it stayed quite still looking at its own reflection at least until it jumped on to the lens. My efforts are not in the same league and I'm also...

Thanks for the lucid explanations. Glad that my basic idea wasn't too mad and not surprised that others have long since tried and mostly discounted it. Shame given the limited supply of quality lenses for legacy uses like printing from film. I'd love to have the time, cash and especially the experti...

I use a smaller 40mm stage in my setup for precise manual focusing. There are a few similar available. Hopefully they will ship to you: https://www.ebay.com/itm/40x40mm-Z-Axis-Trimming-Platform-Linear-Stage-Manual-Slider-Bearing-LZ40/283734903796 Thanks Ray. This seller offers "Worldwide" but then ...

Not sure about others' opinions, I think it's pretty mediocre. I used to have one... Thanks Daniel - much appreciated; that's enough to put me off. Shame as it looked just about expensive enough to be worth a punt. You might prefer something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/SIGMA-KOKI-Z-Axis-Sta...

Photocopier Lenses For Macro?

I've seen plenty of references to using enlarger / photoscanner / machine vision / photoprinter etc lenses for macro work but I can't find anything on using photocopier lenses in this way. I admit - in my considerable ignorance - that I didn't know that photocopiers even used lenses (what for?) but ...

PDV PT-SD408 Z-Axis Linear Stage - any experience?

Hello All I'm trying to make the best of the current lock down and take up some photography again. One of the frustrations I've revisited over the weekend is the lack of vertical - Z-axis - control and precision. I've avoided low cost lab jacks as they've seem pretty flimsy and I can't justify spend...

Re: Newbie Requests Help Identifying Some Microscope Objecti

Welcome to the forum, Ray. Those objectives that are 10x or less powerful can be used on DSLR, with plain extension tubes of around 150mm. Though your image cone may or may not cover your DSLR sensor well and you may get chromatic aberration. At 40x and above, they can be difficult to use on DSLR. ...

metallurgical microscope Does it have "epi" (top, through-objective) lighting - it would stick out sideways from above the turret. It might be missing. It does. There's an aperture with iris on the head with the objectives and a lamp assembly also with an iris. Lamp has a mains voltage transformer....

Newbie Requests Help Identifying Some Microscope Objectives

I’ve been reading and learning from this forum for the last few months and very much appreciate the open, sharing and patient dialogue. I’ve a general interest to develop some skills in macro photography and perhaps microscopy and am slowly adding adapters and other kit. Some years ago I was given a...
