Thanks Mike, we have 3 different types on the pulmonaria flowers presently.
In addition to the Dark edged, there's a completely jet black furred, and a pale gold furred type that looks iridescent when the sun hits it.

Bombylius ID, please?

I would like some help with this, please, but I keep getting a "Filesize exceeds limit" message.
The pixel size of my image is 1000 x 850, which should be OK.

Sigma 150mm F2.8 macro lens on Nikon D850

Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but Sigma offer a firmware upgrade for this lens to enable autofocus in liveview, and focus shift modes (ie auto focus stacking) with the D850. This also works fine when using the lens with it's 1.4x converter, and the results are excellent. https://www.s...

Thanks for your help.....I'm going with Bombus Hypnorum.
It's probably just a variation with a less obvious white tail.

Nikkor 105mm F2.8 VR Macro + TC-14 E ll

Thanks for your reply............I haven't tried it in anger yet, I just put it on to see if it de-graded the image noticeably.
If it focuses reliably, it will be a useful combination.
The lens alone is tack-sharp.

Nikkor 105mm F2.8 VR Macro + TC-14 E ll

According to the Nikon lens compatibility chart, the TC-14 E ll will work with the 105 VR macro, but without autofocus.

I just tried mine on for the first time, and the autofocus (and everything else) works fine.........

Affinity Photo

I just bought this for it's focus stacking facility and after a very short learning curve, I'm impressed with it overall as a photo processing app. Is anyone else out there using it? I just tried to upload a photo to illustrate this, but I'm getting "Filesize exceeds limit" despite the shot being on...

Mite in the morning

A bunch of these little guys were mooching about on the table as I breakfasted in the garden this morning. I took a shot hand held by available light (bright sun) using an Oshiro 60mm f2.8 macro 2:1 lens on a D810, F11 ish, iso 2500. As the sun came round, they were heading for the shadows as fast a...

Yes, you're correct.......I zoomed in a bit on the original shot and compared it with another SR, and it's clearly meant to be there!!

Coup de gras...........

I bent to sniff my favourite rose............. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/6488__DSC6243_2.jpg And it looks as though this poor guy was carrying a parasitic mite on his thorax. I haven't noticed a "hump" like this on this particular type of hoverfly before, and over the years, I've...

Oshiro 60mm 2:1 macro lens

This is an interesting lens that punches a bit above it's £128 weight............ Attached are a couple of shots at 2:1, one as is, and, for a laugh, one with a PK-13 extension tube. Camera is Nikon D810. To give an idea of scale, the balance wheel bearing jewel is approx 1.0mm diameter. Being fully...
